As with a lot of other young teenagers, our client is a great music fan and loves hearing our Carers sing to him. He also loves TV, especially programmes by David Attenborough. We would love a positive, caring person who can work alongside another carer, providing him access to the community and allowing him to live life to his full capacity. If this sounds like a good fit for you, get in touch.
W is a 14-year-old male who lives at home with his mum, stepdad, and younger sibling. He enjoys listening to music on his iPad and watching TV, especially David Attenborough programmes.
W has an Acquired Brain Injury from birth, is non-verbal, has 4 limb cerebral palsy, and Epilepsy. W is a full-time wheelchair user with hoists to assist him at home.
W can eat orally; however, he uses a PEG feed for fluids and medication. On occasion, the Carer will be required to cook for W. Full personal care is required in this role, and training in all aspects of W's care will be provided.
Experience working with children is a prerequisite for this role. If you have had experience with complex care needs, that would be most desirable. However, if you feel that you have the aptitude for this role, please do apply if you have worked with children, even if they have not had complex care needs, as training can be provided.
W is non-verbal and can become frustrated and distressed, causing him to shout and throw his arms around unintentionally. Therefore, you would need to have a patient, calm, and empathic personality to deal with these episodes.
The family has a pet dog, so you would need to be able to work alongside animals and have no allergies.
You will be a driver (over the age of 21 for insurance purposes) who can drive our client's automatic adapted car. You will be happy to take W out on trips and medical visits. As our client's home is not easily accessible to public transport, you would need to own your own transport for your journey to work.
Our client needs 2:1 access to the community, so you would be working with another Carer or Mum in this role.
