What you will do:
As a Managing Associate General Counsel, you will be acting as HSBC-Legal’ s representative in various capacities (Executive Committee, Board, Risk etc.) and engagements while leading the legal team of HSBC’s Global Asset Management in France (AMFR). As a risk steward, you will provide support for Asset Management’s strategic priorities, including but not limited to, M&A activities in Continental Europe, acting in advisory capacity and providing legal oversight and management concerning legislation and its implementation, including on ESG matters and beyond. You will be the legal representative at the Asset Management Business Association meetings and in meetings with regulators on a variety of asset management subjects.
In this role you will:
- Leading the AMFR legal function, managing expertise lawyers supporting the Continental Europe region
- Providing leadership and advice covering specialist areas to meet demands & requirements of AMFR business; including but not limited, to new product development, strategic initiatives, change management and innovation, legislative and regulatory compliance & interpretation etc
- Providing appropriate, constructive support to relevant stakeholders with the goal of facilitating good conduct outcomes and effective legal risk management
- Provide legal representation and advice in various committees, board meetings and other fora as AMFR lead lawyer such as in Risk Management Committees etc.
- Oversee and provide delivery of commercial, practical, and high-quality complex products and specialized legal advice to AMFR entities.
- Optimize AMFR legal function, cost control, monitor external fees, including quality control and challenge to services provided by external law firms
- To lead and challenge in supporting HSBC’s Conduct policy to ensure good client outcomes
- Ensure senior management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes in areas of expertise
- Support the strategic objectives of AM within HBCE, the Asset Management Business and the objectives of the wider HSBC Legal Function
- Working actively towards of creating a supportive, inclusive, and enabling professional environment as a senior leader
Requirements
You should apply if you have:
- Significant exposure to asset management legal experience (internationally or within the E.U, either within private practice or reputable fund houses)
- Prior professional experience in funds/asset management entities and/or have prior experience supporting alternative fund products such as real asset, private credit, and venture products
- Prior experience in development and implementation of risk management policies and controls
- Significant experience managing teams of highly specialized expertise in various legal subjects
- Prior experience in leading and taking ownership for optimizing operational performance to ensure efficient and responsive services
- Exposure to supporting M&A activities with strong growth ambitions
- An ability to translate complex legal risks and concepts to businesses, operational teams, and senior management
- The ability to act as a strategic partner to help stimulate business growth
- Ability to act independently, manage expectations, while highlighting key risks to the business without losing sight of global perspective
- Attention to detail, creative problem solving, efficient at research and analysis, communication & interpersonal skills, and team building capacities.
