Complex Needs Assistant

This role is ideal if you have previous experience within SEN or a degree in Psychology, Criminology, or Sociology and would like to expand your knowledge and skills within complex needs.

A specialist school is actively looking for a committed Complex Needs Assistant to support with speech, language, and communication difficulties as well as those with complex and learning needs. This setting in Bexhill-On-Sea caters for residential and day pupils between the ages of 5 to 19. They are proud to say that they are a total communication environment. This ensures all students can make their wishes known and staff will respond in the best communication style that suits them.

The main aim for this school is to provide the integrated support they need to encourage pupils to achieve their potential and take their place in the community confidently and independently.

Responsibilities of a Complex Needs Assistant:

  1. Provide 1:1 support to a child with complex needs and help students understand instructions.
  2. Assist in implementing individual learning and support plans.
  3. Support children during social activities and outings.
  4. Encourage communication and also look after their physical needs.
  5. Work alongside the teacher and SEN team to create a positive learning environment.
  6. Prepare and provide learning materials.

Requirements of a Complex Needs Assistant:

  1. Impose patience and understanding.
  2. Have an understanding of challenging behaviour.
  3. Always be adaptable in any given situation.
  4. Be able to develop strong and positive relationships with children.
  5. Committed to working as part of a team.
