Central City Foundation currently owns five properties in BC that help provide low-income housing, support for families, Indigenous-led programs, addiction treatments and support for social enterprise. Our low-income housing is operated through our affiliated organization, the Central City Housing Society.

Opportunity:

Central City Housing Society operates 2 SRO buildings in the downtown eastside (Abbott Mansion & Cosmopolitan Hotel) with a combined capacity of 112 units and is looking for a Building Manager to oversee operations in both buildings.

Reporting to the Social Purpose Real Estate Manager.

Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Building Manager is to provide excellent and responsive building management to maintain safe, clean and affordable housing for all residents.

Essential Duties:

1. Schedule, supervise and direct the work of housing operations staff including front desk staff, support workers, janitorial and building services workers.
2. Liaise closely with other members of the CCHS and CCF staff involved in housing operations.
3. Collect and process monthly rents in accordance with policies and procedures, manage rent rolls and work with tenants/agencies to alleviate rent arrears.
4. Respond to tenant inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
5. Work with a vulnerable clientele that has experienced homelessness, substance use and intergenerational trauma.
6. Screen potential tenants and manage the rental process for all residents.
7. Work with Facilities Manager to maintain the building interior and exterior, and ensure safe and consistent operations in accordance with required codes and regulations.
8. Ensure service delivery is consistent with Central City Foundation’s Mission and Mandate.

Requirements:

The core of our business is serving the inner city community; therefore, a critical success factor for any person who joins the Central City Housing team is to have an in-depth understanding of the DTES community, anti-oppression work, intersectionality and the legacy of colonialism in our community.

1. Commitment to working with people who are struggling with substance use and/or mental wellness and wellbeing.
2. Team members are expected to have gained this understanding through lived experience, as well as any post-secondary education.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, tenants and staff, verbally and in writing.
4. Ability to remain calm and non-judgmental while diffusing conflicts and problem-solving.

Qualifications:

1. Current First Aid Certificate.
2. Basic knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
3. At least 5 years front line experience or two years in management position; preferably in a residential setting.
4. Ability to complete a Criminal Record check to the satisfaction of CCHS.
