The role
As a Head of Security, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be responsible for ensuring Babcock is effective in supporting and delivering defence outputs, achieving and maintaining security arrangements across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE).
Day-to-day, you’ll provide leadership, management and control in the planning, conduct and review of nuclear security plans, processes and procedures to deliver, test and provide assurance against the security strategy, the security statement and the security management arrangements.
- Lead security focused transformational programs/projects, managing the change landscape and supporting outcome realisation.
- Develop and undertake procedures for inspection, maintenance and testing of the security system in order to provide confidence that security system delivery is being effectively managed and the ability to deliver the required security effect is achieved.
- Develop and improve the management of security delivery during normal operations, incidents and emergencies, producing a logical and hierarchical set of documents that describe in detail the processes for managing documentation, operations, and ensuring effective communication within nuclear security.
- Develop and improve the security arrangements, ensuring that documentation, guides, templates, process instructions and plans are under appropriate configuration control.
- Working with others including nuclear safety, lead on security baseline management, competence management, assurance processes and independently assessed exercises and tests.
This role is full time 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Head of Security
- An accomplished leader with experience in leading large diverse teams to deliver complex projects and implement change through continuous improvement.
- Proven experience as a security manager or in another similar role, with experience in security risk analysis and management, including defining and developing organisational governance and oversight arrangements is essential.
- Great external/internal stakeholder management to influence and gain agreement from all parties where objectives may compete to maintain alignment.
- Experience in the nuclear industry is certainly helpful, it is not essential, you may have worked in another highly regulated/high hazard/high-risk industry such as defence, energy or aviation or within the wider security arena.
- Experience of successfully managing complex portfolios within a highly regulated environment.
Qualifications for the Head of Security
- Membership of a professional body such as the Register of Chartered Security Professional, the Security Institute or the Institute of Leadership and Management.
- Relevant ISO 27001 qualifications or equivalent with experience - Desirable.
- Certified Nuclear Security Professional - Desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
