About the role:

The purpose of this role is to create visually appealing and believable 3D characters that suit the project's requirements. Depending on the project's requirements, the artist can create highly realistic human characters as well as fantastical characters or imaginative creatures.

  1. Profile Preselection: Our Talent Acquisition team will review your profile to ensure it aligns with our requirements and values.
  2. Talent Acquisition Interview: Selected candidates will undergo an initial interview to discuss their experience, skills, and fit for the role.
  3. Online Test: Qualified candidates will be invited to complete an online assessment to demonstrate their abilities.
  4. Technical Interview: Finalists will participate in a technical interview to assess their proficiency and compatibility with our team when a project staffing plan is made.

The Quest:

  • Character Concept Interpretation: Translate 2D character concepts and references into high-quality 3D models or sculpts with accurate fidelity to the original design and capturing the essence of the character's personality, characteristics, and likeness.
  • High Poly Modeling and Sculpting: Use industry-standard 3D modeling and sculpting software to create detailed and believable character and creature models, ensuring accurate anatomy, proportions, likeness, and accurate materials while matching the artistic style required for any project.
  • Low Poly and Mid Poly Creation: Create the game-ready 3D model version of any sculpt or high poly, with a clean, optimized, smartly prioritized, and animation-ready topology with efficient UVs and achieving the technical and leveling requirements of any project.
  • Textures Creation: Use industry-standard software like Photoshop and Substance Painter to create all the high-quality and highly detailed texture maps required to achieve an accurate materials representation, while matching the artistic style required for any project.
  • Rigging and Skinning: Collaborate with rigging artists to create character rigs that facilitate realistic movement and animation. Skin character models to rigs to ensure smooth deformation and articulation during animation.
  • Character Animation Support: Provide support to animators by creating blend shapes, corrective morph targets, and other assets necessary for character animation. Ensure that character models are optimized for animation performance and efficiency.
  • Character engine set-up: Together with the technical art team, ensure proper integration of the characters in the game engine.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate closely with the Art Director, producers, artists, technical artists, and engineers to ensure that character assets integrate seamlessly into the overall project vision and gameplay experience.
  • Efficient time management: Work efficiently to achieve the estimated times for each phase and punctually meet the delivery date.
  • Punctuality: Present your progress on a daily basis and/or when requested and assist on time to any meeting, call, or communication request.

The Skills:

  • Expert understanding of human and creature anatomy, proportion, silhouette, topology, clothing physics, and construction.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of character-related disciplines such as modeling, texturing, shading, rigging and binding, animation, facial animation, and blend shapes.
  • Strong polygonal modeling skills being able to generate clean, efficient, well-integrated, and leveled models to the requirements of a particular project.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling, sculpting, and texturing software.
  • Full understanding of the technical foundations.
  • PBR Workflow and efficient/well-organized texture creation.
  • High degree of self-direction, but also a great team player with strong verbal and written communication.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-standard pipelines, workflows, and asset exporting processes.
  • Quick learner of new processes and software as needed.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the video game industry and at least 3 credited games.

Software Expertise:

  • Zbrush
  • Maya, 3DS Max, Blender or equivalent software
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Substance Painter
  • Unreal Engine 5, Unity, Zbrush, and Substance Designer are a plus.
