AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

AWS Data Processing and Experience group (consisting of EMR, Glue, Managed Apache Airflow) provides rapidly growing, industry acclaimed cloud services in areas of big data platforms to data analytics to operational databases. The group is at the forefront of innovation in these areas producing world-class cloud services such as Glue, EMR, Athena and many more.

We are looking for a Sr. software development manager to lead development of technical stack to support all our (Big) Data processing services. We will be unifying control plane and build unified resource management that will be leveraged by multiple AWS services for offering consistent data engineering, data preparation, and data integration experience. This role requires ownership, autonomy, and an ability to deliver results. In this role you will be able to build teams from scratch and managed through multiple leaders. You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you partner with Product Management to plan, and deliver experiences for Data processing. You have a passion for managing complex technology projects and helping the team make strong business judgments.

The Team:

Data Processing is a fully managed service offering next-generation data engineering and data integration features at massive scale. Data Processing simplifies and automates the difficult and time consuming data discovery, conversion, mapping, and job scheduling tasks and is fully serverless.

We are building the next generation serverless analytics platform, with a performant dataplane. We are scaling the backend infrastructure to enable super-low latencies for workloads at a massive scale like never seen before. The teams owns both the product & backend and it’s a unique experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Translate functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture, design and extensible code
2. Technically lead a team of smart engineers on complex projects
3. Be an advocate of industry best-practices to produce reliable, fault-torrent and dependable code
4. Code and test complex system modules; develop and leverage frameworks to be effective and efficient
5. Participate in architecture, design and code reviews to maintain our high development standards
6. Own system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance
7. Collaborate and influence other teams to deliver and operate large scale, distributed services in the cloud
8. Mentor other engineers, defining our challenging technical culture, and helping to build a fast-growing team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications
