What you can expect to do here:
- You will provide expert support to project managers/technical leads in executing advanced hydrogeological services, including groundwater components of Environmental Impact Assessments for the oil sands industry, baseline hydrogeological studies, mine dewatering projects, and groundwater supply projects.
- You will lead the development and application of analytical and numerical groundwater models to support complex groundwater modeling projects.
- You will independently manage and analyze hydrogeological data, ensuring its integration into project reports with precision—this includes advanced data analysis, borehole logs, data tables, and interpretation of model results.
- You will conduct in-depth analysis of hydrogeological data and results, presenting actionable insights through well-structured reports.
- You will take ownership of project deliverables using refined technical expertise and leadership capabilities.
- You will proactively uphold the health and safety policies and procedures of WSP and our clients.
- You will mentor junior staff, fostering individual career progression while contributing to the development of team capabilities.
- You will actively collaborate with the groundwater modeling team in Calgary and the wider WSP hydrogeology community across Canada and globally to deliver innovative solutions.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- 5-10 years of proven experience in hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, or similar fields (candidates with more than 10 years are welcomed and encouraged to apply).
- Undergraduate degree in Civil, Geological, Environmental Engineering, or Geology/Hydrogeology (advanced degrees preferred).
- Specialization in groundwater modeling through coursework or extensive industry experience.
- In-depth knowledge of geology and its applications in hydrogeology.
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including GIS software, digital databases, and visualization tools (e.g., Leapfrog).
- Demonstrated experience with industry-standard numerical modeling packages (e.g., MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, MIKE SHE).
- Solid programming skills applied in hydrogeological contexts.
- Practical field experience, such as borehole logging, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing, and water sampling.
- Exceptional organizational skills, including prioritization, time management, and meticulous record-keeping.
- Strong communication and technical writing expertise, suitable for senior-level professional environments.
