Job Description Summary

Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work with an enormous breadth of data to design and develop data science applications. Collaborating with business owners, subject matter experts, and go-to-market teams, you will build innovative solutions to support clinical trials, optimize their design and execution, and improve risk management. You will be involved in every stage of the product development lifecycle, working with data scientists to turn prototypes into well-abstracted reusable services, and build software to expose data science models to business users through responsive UIs. Supporting a culture of continuous improvement, you will also provide architectural guidance, shape coding standards, and mentor engineers and data scientists. The ideal candidate will be an innovative software engineer with a keen interest in exploring and adopting new technologies for continuous improvement. Additionally, they should possess extensive experience in data processing, coupled with a solid understanding of data modeling and governance principles.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Consistently deliver robust, high-quality, reliable engineering outcomes in cross-functional autonomous scrum teams.
2. Research current and emerging industry tools and techniques, sharing findings with colleagues.
3. Drive curiosity and innovation, establishing and enforcing standards.
4. Facilitate cross-team knowledge sharing.
5. Design and lead engineering efforts for building business applications.
6. Collaborate with engineers and leaders from other organizations inside the company.
7. Support product owners by understanding business requirements and helping the team break these into stories.
8. Lead cross-team exercises, including DevOps incident management bridges.
9. Lead documentation efforts for product architecture and security compliance.
10. Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback for work submitted by other engineers.
11. Consistently apply SDLC processes.
12. Mentor interns, apprentices, and other engineers.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Design and build systems to Extract, Load, and Transform data from various sources into organized information that can be easily consumed by data scientists for model-building (such as LLM), applications, and business analysts.

Required Skills:

1. Strong ELT experience.
2. Strong Python and data frame processing experience.
3. Strong Relational Database and SQL skills, with knowledge and experience of non-SQL databases.
4. Data modeling knowledge and experience.
5. Data warehouse knowledge and experience.
6. Data governance knowledge and experience.

Qualifications:

1. 5+ years of relevant collaborative software engineering experience.
2. 2+ years full-time engineering experience across at least two different companies.
3. Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals.
4. Expert familiarity with backend development (Python) or frontend development using a JavaScript framework such as React.js, with familiarity in both areas required.
5. Experience designing applications using a microservices architecture.
6. Knowledge of Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
7. Experience with relational databases.
8. Experience with data ingestion.
9. Experience with BI tools.
10. Experience building RESTful APIs.
11. Knowledge of Linux command line tools.
12. Demonstrated in-depth understanding of product development lifecycle.
13. Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in peer mentorship.
14. Good verbal and written communication skills.
15. Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working in a collaborative Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with data modeling.
2. Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).
3. Experience working with large volumes of complex data with workflow management tools like Airflow.
4. Experience with non-relational databases.
5. Knowledge of UX principles.
6. Experience with the clinical domain and regulated data.
