Software Engineer II, iOS - Core Services

Please note: this hybrid position is based in São Paulo, Brazil - welcoming both local professionals and those open to relocating to São Paulo.

About the role:

As a Software Engineer on the Core Services Engineering team in Brazil, you will be a member of Uber's first Tech Center in LATAM and a part of the global engineering team!

Core Services Engineering develops and manages everything that powers all Uber apps. Operating across 70+ countries and processing millions of transactions per second, the team works to meet the evolving needs of Uber's current and future business.

As a critical part of the customer journey, we build engaging products by solving deep technical challenges, in problem domains that are specific to Uber's business.

You'll be writing reliable and maintainable code that teams across the company rely on while you work, and you will collaborate with the other team members to design, develop, and maintain user interfaces and features for mobile applications (iOS).

What the candidate will do:

1. Design and own architecture that spans across Uber's stack and multiple parts of the Core Services organization
2. Partner with fellow engineers to innovate, architect, develop, and scale Core Services product and platform solutions that impact millions of Uber riders and drivers
3. Work with Product Managers and Designers to nail core user experiences
4. Integrate highly reliable, safety-aware decisioning engine with Uber's core dispatch system
5. Develop algorithms and statistical models that power Uber's sensor inferences at scale by extracting signals and identifying patterns from vast amounts of sensor data
6. Drive ongoing efficiency and reliability improvements through design and automation: availability, performance, scaling, monitoring, and capacity.
7. Lead upstream and downstream dependencies, collaborate with other engineering teams, capture requirements, evolve solutions, and enable successful adoption

Minimum qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
2. Minimum 3 years of experience in Native iOS development.
3. Proficiency in Swift, the primary programming language used for iOS development.
4. Experience with writing, releasing, maintaining mobile code, production monitoring, and experimentation
5. Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems
6. Understanding of Apple's design principles and interface guidelines.
7. Advanced English skills, both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge of iOS frameworks such as UIKit, CoreData, CoreAnimation, etc.
2. The ideal candidate would have experience in design and development of consumer-facing products
3. Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect iOS applications to back-end services.
4. Experience with iOS development tools like Xcode and Interface Builder.
5. Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
6. Good understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
7. Knowledge of performance tuning, usability, and automation testing.
