Software Engineer II, Backend - Core Services

About the Team

Core Services Engineering develops and manages the commerce platform that powers all Uber apps. Operating across 70+ countries and processing millions of transactions per second, the team works to meet the evolving needs of Uber's current and future business.

About the Role

Collaborates with stakeholders to design, build, and maintain backend services and solutions that support user-facing products, downstream services, or infrastructure tools and platforms used across Uber.

What You'll Do

• Develop cutting-edge technologies for automated verification of images, documents, and user identities.
• Build large-scale systems to analyze similarities and relationships between entities such as users, devices, and images.
• Design verification solutions like facial recognition, voice recognition, and biometrics.
• Leverage digital information, behavior signals, and third-party verification methods to establish trust in users.
• Enable verification at critical touchpoints to ensure seamless user journeys and support compliance with risk and safety standards.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders globally to deliver scalable, impactful solutions.
• Integrate with business systems dealing with risk, safety, and compliance.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, OR 3+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, C, or C++.
• Experience shipping high-quality product features on schedule with demonstrated ownership of bugs, timelines, and on-call shifts.
• Advanced English language skills to collaborate with global teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Expertise in implementing complex projects with multiple dependencies.
• Familiarity with scalability and product engineering principles.
