DARO is a technology social enterprise based in Montreal, Canada, that builds tools and services for the nonprofit sector. We focus on using and generating open and public data to help funders and nonprofits inform their programs and strategies. We also apply our unique expertise to systems-level issues and projects related to data and information in the nonprofit sector.
DARO works with the global generosity movement and independent nonprofit organisation GivingTuesday to maintain the GivingTuesday Data Commons, which provides to the social sector what the commercial sector has long benefitted from: big data to drive better decision-making, build a more resilient social sector, and accelerate equitable social innovation. With hundreds of collaborators and 50 global data labs, the Data Commons is the largest philanthropic data collaborative effort in the social sector and is the only initiative focused on collecting and analysing individual giving behaviour of all types.
In pursuit of the goals and expansion of the Data Commons, DARO manages staff, projects, and ongoing functions for the GivingTuesday Data Commons with dedicated staff embedded in GivingTuesday in those capacities in cross-functional roles. This role is one of these positions - managed by DARO but seconded to and embedded in GivingTuesday’s Data Team.
We are a small, dynamic group, with members from academic, librarianship, humanitarian, and industrial backgrounds. We take the lead on internal information storage, design processes to streamline the work of other GivingTuesday staff, and we build outward-facing tools to make our data and our knowledge readily available to a variety of users across the social sector.
We work with global foundations, active nonprofit data collaboratives, and initiatives trying to solve collective information and data sharing problems. You will be a key player in maintaining these relationships through providing expertise in data use and technology solutions for our consulting services.
Working with our partners, you will act as the resource person on diverse projects related to data and generosity. You will develop strategies and solutions to address those needs, and coordinate and lead the implementation of those strategies.
Your areas of knowledge, expertise, or interest should include a mix of:
Our work in these areas is multi-faceted and diverse. This role is meant for someone who is excited about using technology to improve the effectiveness of the social sector. Our value proposition is dealing with the ever-shifting priorities of our clients and partners, and tailoring our work accordingly-- “Plan less, do more”, as they say. As such, you are someone who has a high tolerance for uncertainty and thrives under pressure. You are someone who is continuously learning and applying new concepts to your work. To be considered for this role, you must be eager to help clients to ensure that data, information, and technology projects are impactful and sustainable.
