Job Description Summary: The Legal Counsel role resides in the Legal Brazil & LATAM team as part of the International Legal organization at PayPal that provides legal advice to all our international markets. The Legal Brazil & LATAM team supports PayPal business leaders and other internal clients in approximately 38 jurisdictions on relevant payment and financial laws and regulations. You will drive major cross-functional initiatives across the business, tackling diverse and complex legal and regulatory matters associated with our payment products.

Job Description:

We are seeking a high caliber and energetic attorney, with 4+ years of experience in technology and financial services regulation to join our Brazil and LATAM Legal team. This attorney will work closely with other global product attorneys and product teams to provide best-in-class legal and regulatory guidance as these teams develop, implement and update PayPal’s products and services.

This position is based in Sao Paulo and will report to the Head of Legal, Brazil and LATAM. To succeed in this challenging role, the candidate should be self-motivated, independent and well-organized with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. He/she should be proficient in English (additional fluency in Spanish is preferred).

Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice and support to PayPal business leaders and other internal clients in Brazil and LATAM on relevant payment and financial laws and regulations.
  • Dealing with regulatory bodies, regulatory exams, internal and third-party audits.
  • Drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements and providing high-quality legal advice.
  • Monitoring and advising on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting Brazil and LATAM operations.
  • Advising the business on product, marketing and general legal risks, including payments, AML, privacy, consumer protection.
  • Collaborating with legal and business colleagues across PayPal globally.

Skills & Experience: Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate experience and competence with the following:

  • Familiarity with, and strong interest in, financial services (especially payments), as well as technology.
  • Experience in regulatory affairs and with online businesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree. Admitted to practice in Brazil.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with attention to detail.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively provide sound legal advice and implement policies.
