Field Service Superintendent Supervisor – Propulsion

Parts and Field Service is now looking for an enthusiastic Field Service Superintendent to join our skilled team in Brazil.

What will you be doing?

As a Field Service Superintendent Supervisor - Propulsion, you will perform field service work activities related to propulsion equipment, including installation, repair and maintenance of propulsion gearboxes, OD boxes, clutches, couplings, shafting, bearings and seals, controllable pitch propellers, thrusters, and waterjets.

This position reports to the Field Service Resources Coordinator.

Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for performing complex and advanced troubleshooting on specific equipment and equipment families in relation to Wärtsilä systems.
  • Acts as a Superintendent for complex marine installations and as a system specialist for assisting Commissioning Engineers to lead product-related commissioning activities as required.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on site to isolate and find root causes of failures in propulsion mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Lead and manage assigned self/team while on site, interacting with the customer to arrange for proper schedule to achieve desired scope.
  • Keep track of work details and provide in-depth reports including all necessary details (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.).
  • Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used.
  • Proactively advise and promote available products and solutions to customers.
  • Provide internal and external work reports according to Wärtsilä standards and perform site audits.
  • In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, the post holder must be prepared to undertake such additional duties within their capabilities which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity, change the general character or level of responsibility of the post.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact professionally with customers during the work execution.
  • Perform internal and external progress status of the assigned work.
  • Creating the Service Work Reports.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures.
  • Follow up and report on the status of work orders to customers and/or internal stakeholders.
  • Continuously seek solutions according to best practices.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • A safety-first mindset
  • Preferred MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering
  • Experience with many aspects of marine propulsion systems: transverse thrusters, steerable thrusters, retractable thrusters, underwater mountable thrusters, controllable and fixed pitch propellers, and gearboxes.
  • Good time management and organizational skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload.
  • Understanding the importance of quality
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge on maintenance procedures.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge on workshop maintenance.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge on tools handling and mechanical components dimensional inspection.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge on hydraulic tools handling.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge on lifting tools handling and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Electrical and Automation systems will be a plus.
  • Excellent ability to cooperate and communicate with other people and advanced command of English, both oral and written.

Successful applicants must be authorized to work in Brazil without sponsorship.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires a 70% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
