JOB DESCRIPTION

You're an original. So are we.

We're a company of people who like to forge our own path. We invented the blue jean in 1873, and we reinvented khaki pants in 1986. We pioneered labor and environmental guidelines in manufacturing. And we work to build sustainability into everything we do. Our brands stand for freedom and self-expression around the world.

Where we lead, others follow. For more than 160 years, we've used the strength of our brands to lead with our values and make an outsized impact on the world. We employ more than 15,000 people globally to support our great brands: Levi's, Dockers, Denizen, Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. and Beyond Yoga.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the Payments domain in our technology organization. This role is critical to ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient payment processing across our global e-commerce and retail ecosystem. You will be responsible for managing a high-performing engineering team that builds and operates payment APIs and services supporting credit cards, gift cards, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), fraud detection, reconciliation, and in-store payment integrations.

You will drive technical excellence, architecture, and execution in alignment with our domain-driven design and direct-to-consumer strategy. As an engineering leader, you will collaborate with product management, security, store teams, mobile app team, website teams, and external payment providers to deliver robust, compliant, and scalable payment solutions. You will lead a highly skilled team of software engineers in a “you build it, you run it” environment. Your primary responsibility will be to drive your team toward successful and efficient delivery of high-quality software, while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll ensure the team is aligned with company goals, adheres to best engineering practices, and upholds robust DevOps principles, including designing, building, testing, deploying, and monitoring the applications and services they create.

About the Job

  • Process Management: Improve software development processes, implementing best practices for CI/CD, code reviews, automated testing, and deployment to streamline development and deployment cycles.

  • Ownership of Operations: Champion a DevOps mindset, where the team not only builds but also runs and monitors their own applications in production, ensuring reliability, availability, and performance.

  • Problem Solving: Facilitate solutions to complex technical problems, proactively identifying bottlenecks, risks, and quality concerns, and implementing measures to address them.

  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on team performance, KPIs, and quality metrics, ensuring a high level of transparency and focus on improvement areas. Prioritize talent development and help with hiring new talent and grow engineers that are already at Levi Strauss & Co.

  • Experience Working with Global Companies: Work with teams around the world and support your global-capable platform.

About You

  • 10+ years of experience in product and/or platform engineering role, with tangible accomplishments in ecommerce or similar customer-facing digital experiences and APIs.

  • Proven Experience: Minimum 7 years of engineering experience, including hands-on software development and at least 2 years in a management or technical leadership role.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in any of Java, Node.js, TypeScript, GoLang, with a deep understanding of modern software engineering and DevOps practices. Deep knowledge of RESTful APIs, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native services.
