Our company Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to Fortune 100 & 500 companies and many others across Canada.

Role(s) Required: Sr. Systems Admin

Location: Remote (anywhere in Canada/USA/South America, but must be able to work on EST with the Canadian team)

Required Start Date: ASAP

Required End Date: 12 months + renewable every year

Type: Contract

Total Hours Approved Per Role: 40h/week

Rate: the max. Salary will be $4k USD/mth On T4 or C2C (5,478.90 CAD)

Client Location: US/Canada

Summary:

Reporting directly to the CTO and managing the Systems department.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Responsibility over systems and networks.
  2. Work directly with the Development Team Leads and Project Management in managing projects for the website and provide final sign-off/approval for release to production.
  3. Collaborate with Senior Management, participating in planning and project discussions for various websites.
  4. Analyze and assess areas of risk to systems and recommend/implement changes as appropriate to the business.
  5. Continuously assess network and systems security, ensuring a high level of systems data security is maintained overall. Report concerns directly to the CTO.
  6. Perform systems and network architectural design for the sites network, including capacity planning, hardware, infrastructure, software integration, OS and software performance tuning.
  7. Act as the single point of escalation for production issues, interfacing with required resources to see issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  8. Effectively manage risk, including monitoring, system redundancy and backups based on business requirements and acceptable risk.
  9. Provide technical assistance and consultation as required to all areas of the company, including Project Management, Sales, Quality Assurance, Accounting, Customer Service, Development and Systems departments.
  10. Perform special tasks and projects company-wide, as assigned by the CTO.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide mentoring and technical assistance to Systems Administration staff on a day-to-day basis, as required.
  2. Lead as a role model behavior consistent with verbal directives.
  3. Provide feedback for performance reviews for Technical and Development staff and the various websites.
  4. Facilitate problem solving and collaboration, ensure discussions and make decisions that lead toward closure, intervene when necessary to aid the team in resolving issues.
  5. Be part of on-call rotation (12pm 8pm EST, 1-week duration every 4 weeks).
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  1. 5+ years of experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  2. Must be well versed supporting web servers
  3. Strong background with storage SAN (NFS and iSCSI)
  4. Well versed with ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash)
  5. Adding/removing nodes, expand clusters, rebuilt clusters, use InfluxDB
  6. TCP/IP knowledge BGF and OSPF
  7. Hands-on experience working with Linux in a Systems Administrative role
  8. Hands-on experience working with Advanced Network Administrative role including routing, switching and security
  9. Exceptional problem determination and creative problem solving skills
  10. Strong written and verbal skills
  11. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle
  12. Strong documentation and organizational practices
  13. Extensive experience with many of these:
  14. MySQL, maintenance and troubleshooting
  15. LAN/WAN/VPN setup and troubleshooting
  16. Linux-based and other firewall technology
  17. Cloud technologies (OpenStack, oVirt, RHEV or similar)
  18. Baremetal hardware, SAN, Switching and Load-balancing
  19. Backup technologies
  20. Systems security
  21. Automation systems (Ansible, Puppet or equivalent)
  22. Expertise with multiple Web technologies including but not limited to:
