Descrição da oferta de emprego

The position refers to a post-doctoral fellowship linked to the Thematic Project “Continuous Monitoring of Steroids in Interstitial Fluid Using Wearable Biosensors Enhanced with Nanoparticles to Improve the Management of Adrenal Diseases”, based at the Hospital das Clínicas (HC), the hospital complex run by the University of São Paulo's Medical School (FM-USP) in Brazil. This project aims to develop and clinically validate detection solutions for the dynamic tracking of steroids over prolonged periods while ensuring high patient comfort.

First, we will determine whether interstitial aldosterone concentrations measured by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) reflect serum concentrations so that they can be used as reliable predictors of steroid excess or deficiency, thus addressing critical gaps in currently available diagnostic methods.

Simultaneously, biocompatible microneedle platforms will be developed using 3D printing and microfabrication to enable continuous and minimally invasive extraction of interstitial fluid, as established in preliminary studies. The goal of this project is to validate the continuous monitoring of interstitial cortisol using this biosensor for the diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism.

Continuous measurement of interstitial cortisol concentrations via the wearable biosensor will be assessed over a 48-hour period in 32 healthy controls and 32 patients with primary hyperaldosteronism.

Required qualifications for this post-doctoral fellowship include expertise in mass spectrometry and statistical analysis. Candidates must send their CV for analysis, after which the pre-selected candidates will be interviewed.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
