At STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open ACCESS scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.

About the Role

The role of Associate Scientific Editor sits within the Author Heroes team. Members of our team use scientific expertise and problem-solving skills to improve the author experience and help authors find a suitable home for their paper.

Responsibilities

1. Evaluating content as a partner to external editors;
2. Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively;
3. Engaging closely with authors to help them improve their manuscripts;
4. Managing the editorial process for papers, from submission through peer review to the final decision;
5. Helping authors increase their odds of success in being published in another journal if rejected from their first choice.

Content evaluation is based on questions such as: Is the article submitted within the aims and scope of the journal(s)? Does the science make sense? Do the results support the main conclusions? Have the authors chosen an appropriate method? Is the manuscript of sufficient quality? Is this the right journal for this work, or could the authors improve their manuscript to increase their odds of success at another journal?

Our Editors offer authors guidance and ensure a smooth overall experience for authors who submit to our journals.

Requirements

1. Hold a PhD in Social Sciences.
2. Demonstrate an experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude;
3. Have a record of having published papers in scientific journals;
4. Stay technology-savvy, familiar with online platforms, social media, and digital content;
5. Exhibit good communication skills and excellent written and spoken English;
6. Build relationships and act as a self-starter. Be able to connect with the scientific community and across Elsevier at different levels within a large international environment;
7. Show broad scientific interest and a desire to serve and help customers in the scientific and clinical community, including authors, editors, and reviewers.
