Agriculture Field Representative

Overview

The Pictsweet Company is looking for an experienced Agriculture Field Representative. The Agriculture Field Representative will assist the Field Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating agriculture field activities between the plant and growers.

Responsibilities

• Enters data to record and compute grower product by crop, date, block, and weight on a weekly basis.
• Assists the Field Manager in maintaining a seed inventory and generating invoices.
• Arranges for the transportation of crops to the processing plant.
• May assist in coordinating between contract growers and the plant production department on the implementation of planting/harvest schedules to ensure an adequate smooth flow of product to the plant.
• Inspects growing crops for evidence of disease and insect damage and recommends corrective measures.
• Supervises the harvesting crew.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulations relating to food safety and personnel safety such as FDA, USDA, OSHA, and TOSHA. Complies with all other regulations and laws affecting the company (business law, trade secrets, personnel practices, etc.).
• Follows all Company policies and procedures, which include SOPs, Employee Handbook, Food Quality Policies, GMP Handbook, HACCP, and Pictsweet Safety Procedures.
• Assists in directing subordinate personnel in the maintenance and repair of harvest machinery and equipment.
• Enforces company rules, such as attendance, food safety, production quality, safety, GMPs, and efficiency. Disciplines subordinates when non-compliance occurs.
• Trains subordinate personnel on SOPs and ensures compliance with procedures.
• Maintains appropriate mechanical records and reports.
• Fosters and maintains positive employee relations with all subordinate personnel as well as organizational colleagues.
• Ensures a safe workplace. Follows Pictsweet Hazardous Communication Plan, Lockout Tag out Program, Process Safety Management Plan, and all applicable safety standards.
• Clears application of pesticides (CDMS program).
• Adheres to the company’s Bio-terrorism Program.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
• Serves as backup for the Field Manager when he is absent or unable to perform his duties.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Must be knowledgeable of food processing principles, quality control, HACCP, GMP, and personnel management. Must be a proven leader, with the ability to organize and direct subordinate personnel. Must be experienced in preventive maintenance programs.

EDUCATION: College Degree in Entomology, Agriculture, or Horticulture preferred, but 4 – 8 years experience in the food industry may be substituted for a degree.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must possess an advanced understanding of agriculture, entomology, and harvest equipment. Must possess good communication skills (verbal and written). Must be bilingual, English/Spanish. Must be able to work with little or no supervision. Be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position will work in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Some office work will also be required.

OTHER: Must be able to work extended hours (evenings and dawn). Must be able to travel. Must be able to be away from home for a month at a time.
