The Medical Day Unit is a busy and dynamic outpatient department that provides a wide range of treatments and diagnostic procedures, including:

• Intravenous infusions


• Blood transfusions


• Other scheduled day-case therapies

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 3 Technician to join our friendly team on a permanent basis.

As a key member of the unit, you will provide clinical and non-clinical support to ensure the smooth running of the department. The role includes assisting registered nurses, supporting patient flow, preparing clinical areas, and helping maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness.

Cannulation skills are desirable but not essential—full training and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate.

This role is well-suited to someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

Working Pattern: Monday-Friday 07:00-17:00, Saturday 08:00-16:00

• Support the preparation and delivery of intravenous infusions and other treatments


• Assist with patient observations and monitoring, under supervision


• Maintain stock levels and ensure clinical areas are well organised


• Support clinical staff with daily workflow and patient movement


• Contribute to infection control and health & safety standards


• Liaise with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams


• Assist with administrative duties as required


• Participate in training, competency development, and reflective practice

Our patients may attend regularly for long-term treatments or visit us for a single procedure. Regardless of the reason for their visit, our aim is to create a calm, welcoming environment and ensure every patient receives clear information about their treatment and feels at ease during their stay.

A designated coordinator is on duty each day to maintain smooth patient flow, support staff, and help manage any challenges that arise. Good communication and teamwork are essential to how we work, and we encourage open dialogue and shared problem-solving.

• Assess patients; within clearly defined parameters by measuring, recording and informing Registered Nurses of any relevant findings


• Assist in the admission and discharge of patients, ensuring they are safe to discharge

• Ability to competently perform cannulation/venepuncture


• Standard/advanced keyboard skills


• Use of tools/equipment


• Level of knowledge of specific IT systems required (such as Trak care, Microsoft Word, ESR and EPR)

• To work as a member of the team and contribute to the effective running of the clinical area


• To work a shift pattern this is determined by service requirement, but also conforms to the European Working Time Directive


• No budgetary responsibility

• The unit is busy and very spaced out, so the work can be tiring


• Computers are used on the unit frequently

• Carry out tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurses, working strictly within the competencies as stipulated by the Trust; including:


• Cannulation


• Venepuncture


• ECG recording


• Carry out blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations and escalating concerns to Registered Nurses

• GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English Grade 4 or above


• Evidence of a completed care certificate

• Ability to priorities own workload and that of others as appropriate


• Compassionate and respectful, with a caring and non-judgmental approach.
