What is the role?

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Commercial Team.

The purpose of the role is to manage the financial management of sites for the region through effective and efficient controls, producing reports to allow senior management to establish site status.

The role will include:

1. To primarily be responsible for at 3 to 4 sites of varying complexity whilst setting up budgets, producing bi-monthly valuations, appointing subcontractors and making subcontractor payments to maintain close cost control and enable management decisions.
2. Ensure weekly and monthly payments are processed efficiently, any disputed items are resolved, allowing site works to proceed unhindered and give an accurate picture of site financial status.
3. Produce site valuations on a bi-monthly basis and present to the Board of Directors to indicate any variation from budgeted figures.
4. Undertake negotiations to obtain the optimum rates for sub-contract appointments to maximise margins.
5. Utilise the Persimmon Group COINS system to set up new sites and establish budget, predicting site profitability for financial planning verification.
6. Liaison with other departments on time to ensure sites run efficiently (Construction, Sales, Customer Care, Accounts).
7. Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team to promote safety in the way we build projects.
8. Ensure that on occasion when deputising for the Manager the team are allocated tasks, where quality of work will need to be verified to maintain it is completed to a good standard within company guidelines.
9. Given proven experience the role will involve mentoring and training junior members of the team and developing their skills to a sufficient level where they can take on more responsibility and add value to the team, thus improving productivity within the region.
10. On occasion provide assistance to the Manager when making key business decisions and attend regular regional meetings as the relevant subject expert.

What experience, qualifications and skills are we looking for?

1. Minimum of HND/HNC in building relating studies.
2. Previous experience in the UK residential house building sector.
3. Fully conversant with Microsoft Word and Excel.
4. Full UK driving licence.
5. Ability to oversee a number of different projects at different stages of development, whilst having exceptional project management and time management skills.
