About the role: The role will be a remote working arrangement, with a requirement to attend Haig Offices in Victoria, London on an occasional basis as required. You will have a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role. You will be customer focused, a good communicator with excellent problem-solving skills including dealing with customer complaints. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Asset and Programme Management Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of our residential property portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. This role involves close collaboration with housing managers, contractors, and tenants to maintain the condition of our properties and ensure value for money on all works carried out.

About the job

Job summary:

  1. To prepare detailed budgets and cost plans for property maintenance, refurbishment, and improvement projects across the Trust property assets. Analyse project costs and identify potential cost-saving opportunities. To monitor expenditure and ensure projects adhere to approved budgets. Provide accurate cost reporting to management.
  2. To be responsible for the preparation of tender documents and evaluate bids from contractors. Negotiate contracts and ensure favourable terms. Appoint and manage contractors, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  3. Responsible for the assessment and certification of contractor payments. To manage variations and resolve contractual disputes.
  4. To maintain accurate records of project documentation in accordance with Trust processes and procedures.
  5. To provide a professional, technical and practical approach in the delivery of all works commissioned on behalf of the Trust to ensure that legal and statutory obligations are met.
  6. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the salary of the role. This is a home-based position. Attend occasional team meetings (approx 6-10 times per annum) mainly at Haig Housing Trust’s head office in Victoria, London.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Education - Essential

  1. Formal qualification in Quantity Surveying
  2. Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role
  3. IT literate in Microsoft Office and Outlook

Knowledge, Skills & Experience - Essential

  1. Excellent time management and organisation skills
  2. Customer focused, good communicator with excellent problem-solving skills including dealing with customer complaints
  3. Evidence of delivering value for money, efficiency and service improvement
  4. Proven knowledge and experience in building safety and all aspects of H&S
  5. Capable to diagnose and provide technical solutions in varied building maintenance matters (damp, structural defects etc)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience - Desirable

  1. Evidence of dealing with disrepair cases
