Job description

The Barts Pharmacy Department are looking for a dynamic and energetic individual who is ambitious and forward-thinking with clinical experience in acute and emergency medicine to join our Pharmacy team at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The post holder will provide highly specialist and advanced clinical and professional pharmaceutical services to patients admitted to the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit and acute medicine with support to the Emergency Department to promote the optimised, safe and cost-effective use of medicines.

You will be a core member of the pharmacy team and the Trust's acute and emergency care team, providing professional pharmaceutical governance, medicines safety, medicines information, medicines finance, education and training and medicines optimisation support to the team and the service's patients. The post holder will be supported to further develop both your clinical skills and your abilities as an advanced clinical practitioner.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a seamless 7-day working schedule, ensuring continuous pharmaceutical support and enhancing patient care. The goal is to develop a 7 day Pharmacy service across the acute and emergency areas and the post holder, along with other team members, would work towards supporting a flexible working pattern across 7 days. This would be negotiated with the post holder.

Qualifications
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Independent prescribing qualification, or willing to work towards
  • MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
  • Significant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post
  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
  • Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines
  • Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists/other staff groups
  • Experience of providing prescribing advice to general practice
  • Experience of working at interfaces of care
  • Experience of working with electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems
  • Experience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback
  • Experience delivering care in acute medicines specialties in a ward setting
Knowledge
  • Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of medicines management systems
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
