SENIOR COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY MANAGER (UK)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Compliance and Safety professional.

We are seeking a highly skilled and pragmatic Senior Compliance and Safety Manager to join our team in London and support our Operations teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational compliance, embedding best practice safety protocols, and supporting operational excellence across all functions within the UK operations. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to contribute to operations in the mid-EU market (France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany & Switzerland). This role requires a commercial mindset to drive efficient and effective processes while maintaining a high standard of health, safety, and regulatory compliance.

About the team

The growing Global Legal, Risk & Compliance team, currently consisting of 9 employees, is a diverse, highly skilled, international team based in Denmark, London, and New York.

The team has a strong focus on strategic improvements, team engagement and development, and collaboration. We are focused on supporting the business in digitalisation, risk mitigation, and data-driven services and solutions, alongside the physical expansion internationally.

Role responsibilities

  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, industry standards, and legal requirements. Regularly review and update company policies to reflect current legislation and best practices.
  • Policies and Procedures: Identifying new requirements and assisting in the drafting of new policies, procedures. Legislation horizon scanning.
  • Operational Support: Collaborate closely with operations teams to integrate compliance and safety procedures into daily activities. Provide guidance and practical solutions to support operational teams in meeting safety and compliance goals.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs that ensure staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to maintain a safe and compliant working environment. Foster a culture of continuous learning and awareness of safety practices at all levels.
  • Internal Audits: Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with internal procedures, legal requirements, and safety standards. Identify gaps and lead corrective actions to mitigate risks and improve processes.
  • Process Optimisation: Work to streamline safety and compliance processes for greater efficiency, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting a culture of operational excellence. Ensure that safety and compliance measures align with commercial objectives.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify potential risks related to food safety, employee safety, and regulatory compliance. Provide actionable recommendations to minimise risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with product sourcing guides, third party due diligence, ingredient spec sheet review and approval.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of compliance activities, incidents, audits, and training. Prepare reports for senior leadership, highlighting key metrics, areas of concern, and progress on compliance initiatives.
  • Departmental Champion: Be the first contact point for local operations in relation to data privacy, due diligence & enterprise risk management.

Key Qualifications and skills

  • Five years plus experience in a multi-site F&B business.
  • Proven experience in a compliance or safety management role, within the food and beverage industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Hygiene Regulations) and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience with internal auditing, risk management, and compliance reporting.
  • Ability to balance commercial considerations with a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification (desirable).
  • Experience in process improvement and embedding operational excellence frameworks.
