Job description

Permanent, Full Time

The School of Foundation, Intermediate Learning and Employability at Kingston College is looking to appoint a Lecturer to teach a combination of GCSE English Language and English Functional Skills. The GCSE teaching will be predominantly to students aged 16-19 years. For English Functional Skills classes, we allocate 2 hours of teaching a week.

You will follow our agreed schemes of work and assessment schedules, and you will be expected to set a minimum of one piece of marked work each class every week. This will be recorded on Pro-Monitor. You will prepare students for June exams, marking home works and mock exams, student monitoring, and where appropriate, curriculum development.

As our Lecturer, we would like you to hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject, hold a teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards it), and have excellent teaching skills in GCSE English and/or Functional Skills English. We would like you to have energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the subject and education, be able to support, motivate, and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress, and be able to use new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

With awareness of academic quality standards, you will have high personal standards and expectations, good planning, preparation, organisational, and administrative skills, with good attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure to agreed deadlines.

We welcome applications from staff who would like a fractional appointment. (If you are applying for a fractional appointment – please indicate the fraction in your supporting statement.)

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year.

Closing date for the return of completed applications is Friday 11th April.

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 40 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year, as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities, and professional development and training, plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
