Job description

We are looking for a Head of Operations to join a globally renowned charity based in Manchester city centre.


You will be working within their live events arm of the organisation helping them host large scale live events.


Job Role

You will report to the Director of Operations & CEO and work within the senior management team of the organisation.


An exciting opportunity has been created to join a passionate, dedicated team. The Director of Operations role is one of the most senior roles within the organisation.


The role is responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the charity's operations, leading on the development and delivery of key strategies aligning with the overarching strategic priorities plan.


Key Areas of Responsibility
  1. Operations: Develop and take ownership of all aspects of the charity's operations policies and procedures.
  2. Establish performance measures for all events and initiatives and report on these to the CEO and Board of Trustees.
  3. Provide necessary support and coaching to the operations team to ensure seamless contract operations management for all external providers & suppliers.
  4. Finance: Oversee the preparation of all budgets.
  5. Close financial monitoring and management of the charity's financial strategies, policies and procedures.
  6. Support the head of Finance and Senior Management Team in identifying and implementing efficiencies, ensuring projects run within agreed financial parameters.
  7. HR & People Management: Act as dedicated HR lead within the organisation, supporting colleagues to continually develop the best working atmosphere and culture for our people.
  8. Provide line management for direct reports including all aspects of appraisal and performance management.
  9. Governance, Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee the charity's compliance with relevant legislation and The Charity Commission.
  10. Ensure all legal and insurance aspects and contractual arrangements are in line with the organisation's requirements.
  11. Ensure all necessary risk mitigation strategies are in place and regularly reviewed.
  12. Events: Provide strategic oversight of the events strategy.
  13. Other Responsibilities: As a critical friend to the CEO, you will be a trusted advisor and deputy within the organisation.
  14. Deputise for the CEO in times of absence; you will be the most senior officer accountable directly to the Board of Trustees.
  15. Establish direct relationships with key stakeholders and delivery partners, acting as an ambassador for the charity.

The responsibilities outlined above are indicative only and not exhaustive. You will be expected to perform all such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the role.


Please note that due to the nature of our work, the flexibility to work outside normal office hours will be required. The role is based at our City Centre office and will require some international travel.


Person Specification

We're looking for an effective leader with demonstrable operational management experience. As a values-driven individual, you should be able to clearly evidence outstanding, inclusive leadership capability.


You will bring a diverse set of experiences and a track record of successfully managing and delivering projects and initiatives with operating budgets of circa £2m+.


This role will suit those with a genuine commitment to sound governance, policies, processes and controls.


You'll be joining a dedicated events team who deliver a programme of events, large and small, all year round and pride ourselves on our world-class standard.


Skill and Experience
Essential
  1. Experience operating at Director level in an operations role.
  2. Commercial awareness and a thorough understanding of the competitive funding environment in which we operate.
  3. Ability to prioritise goals and deliver against deadlines with a complex workload.
  4. Capacity to oversee the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
  5. Highly effective written and verbal communication, presentation and ambassadorial skills.
  6. Highly organised with a positive and proactive approach to work.
  7. Excellent reporting and analysis skills.
  8. A clear understanding of and passion for diversity & equality issues.
Desirable
  1. Knowledge and experience of working within the live events sector.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the third sector.
  3. Proficient using G-Suite or similar software.
  4. Full UK Driving licence.
