OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

CAA ICON (a division of CAA Sport) is the world’s-leading owner’s representative and project management consultancy for the development or renovation of sports, entertainment and public assembly venues. CAA ICON has managed the delivery of more than 55 iconic venues and over 2,000 consulting engagements around the world.

The CAA ICON European team are looking to recruit an exceptional Project Director (based in Cardiff) to be part of a driven team who manage the delivery of projects that inspire communities and generate unforgettable experiences for generations of fans.

As a Project Director, you will lead the project through all stages of the life of a project, including feasibility study production, design development, town planning approvals, procurement, construction, fit-out, testing and operational readiness. You will coordinate, manage and monitor activities related to the project programme and budget, and will be required to engage and collaboratively work with clients, architects, engineers, specialist consultants, and contractors/subcontractors to deliver the client’s vision.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

1. Adopt and lead a collaborative-led project culture, working to the highest health, safety and well-being standards.
2. Work with the Client’s internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive project requirements document (brief) from which to inform and manage the design and development of the project.
3. Manage (or support) the procurement of professional consultants, contractors, client direct suppliers and specialist consultants.
4. Provide day to day project coordination of appointed parties including the arrangement of meetings, communicating and monitoring of arising actions, informing the project team of the client’s requirements, and outlining programme and budgetary targets.
5. Support the development of the design with emphasis on coordinating the implementation of client’s requirements.
6. Review cost estimates and contribute to the production of project budget reports.
7. Establish project controls and client reporting processes, including supporting the compilation and presentation of update reports.
8. Undertake the contract administration role as an Employer’s Agent.
9. Establish and administer project change procedures with the cost management consultant.
10. During the construction phase, be based on site to monitor the construction progress and to proactively resolve risks and issues arising.
11. Support the review and approval of consultants and contractor’s payment applications.
12. Maintain necessary documentation for all contracts, insurance certificates and warranties.
13. Develop and manage the project risk register as well as the tracking of mitigation measures.
14. Coordinate with the project architect, engineering consultants and sub-contractors in resolving on-site risks, issues and design conflicts.
15. Manage the attainment of necessary statutory approvals, permits and certificates to enable the safe opening, occupation and use of the venue.
16. Coordinate and manage project close-out activities including final acceptance of equipment, testing and commissioning and the compilation of all operational and maintenance manuals.
17. Work with project team to ensure the Contractor is implementing and maintaining its site logistics and safety procedures.
18. Manage the procurement and safe delivery of scope being delivered directly by the client.
19. Manage project issues as they arise with the aspiration to ensure timely and effective resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

1. A team leader with the ability to develop positive relationships and interact effectively with Clients, contractors, and the wider project team.
2. Minimum 15 years previous experience in the construction or a related services industry, working in project management and employers agent roles.
3. Bachelor’s degree (ideally in construction, engineering or like industry) or equivalent work experience.
4. Good understanding of the phases of a major project, construction change process, budget management, and architectural/engineering plans.
5. Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, project programme and project agreements.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
8. Ability to multi-task and the desire to continue learning.
9. Ability to thrive on accepting accountability for delivering under pressure whilst maintaining integrity.
10. Familiarity with Microsoft applications especially Project and Excel.
11. The desire to work on some of the most exciting sports, entertainment and public assembly projects in the UK and Europe.
