Head of Planning – Leadership Role in a Fast-Growing Consultancy

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Planning to take the lead in a dynamic and innovative consultancy, driving project planning excellence across a range of major infrastructure and construction projects. This role offers the chance to shape the strategic direction of a high-performing team while remaining hands-on when necessary.

Operating at the forefront of technology and data-driven decision-making, the successful candidate will lead a team working on projects ranging from £1m to £1B+ across the UK and Europe, partnering with Owner/Operators, Main Contractors, and Subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and develop a planning function that delivers high-quality project outcomes.
  2. Drive innovation and continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency.
  3. Mentor and coach a team, fostering professional growth and technical expertise.
  4. Shape and implement the strategic vision for the planning department.
  5. Balance hands-on project involvement with high-level delegation as required.
  6. Travel where necessary to collaborate with clients and internal teams.

Required Experience & Skills:

  1. Proven track record of driving innovation to create measurable improvements.
  2. Experience in leading large/ global teams at a department level.
  3. Strong ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
  4. Passion for developing people and helping them achieve their full potential.
  5. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  6. 10+ years’ experience in engineering and construction project delivery.
  7. Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6 or Asta and advanced Excel skills.
  8. Full right to work in the UK.
  9. Strong data-driven approach to problem-solving.
  10. Bonus: Coding skills are advantageous but not essential.

What This Role Won’t Suit:

  1. Those looking for a straightforward, low-pressure position.
  2. Individuals unwilling to adapt to feedback and a continuous improvement culture.
  3. People who prefer working in isolation rather than collaborating with a team.

  2. 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  3. Pension contributions up to 7%.
  4. Coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  5. Discretionary performance-based bonuses.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-performing, forward-thinking environment and wants to be part of an organisation that challenges the status quo in project planning and delivery.
