Head of Planning – Leadership Role in a Fast-Growing Consultancy

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Planning to take the lead in a dynamic and innovative consultancy, driving project planning excellence across a range of major infrastructure and construction projects. This role offers the chance to shape the strategic direction of a high-performing team while remaining hands-on when necessary.

Operating at the forefront of technology and data-driven decision-making, the successful candidate will lead a team working on projects ranging from £1m to £1B+ across the UK and Europe, partnering with Owner/Operators, Main Contractors, and Subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a planning function that delivers high-quality project outcomes.
  • Drive innovation and continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Mentor and coach a team, fostering professional growth and technical expertise.
  • Shape and implement the strategic vision for the planning department.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring effective project delivery.
  • Balance hands-on project involvement with high-level delegation as required.
  • Travel where necessary to collaborate with clients and internal teams.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Proven track record of driving innovation to create measurable improvements.
  • Experience in leading large/ global teams at a department level.
  • Strong ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
  • Passion for developing people and helping them achieve their full potential.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • 10+ years’ experience in engineering and construction project delivery.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6 or Asta and advanced Excel skills.
  • Full right to work in the UK.
  • Strong data-driven approach to problem-solving.
  • Bonus: Coding skills are advantageous but not essential.
