Job description

Job Title: Apprentice Engineer
Location: West London/Surrey
Salary: £23,000 - £25,000
Security Clearance: Must be eligible for high-level UK security clearance
Reporting to: Engineer (Test Team Lead)

We are seeking an Apprentice Engineer to join a leading, innovative and exciting engineering company operating within the defence sector. This is a 4-year apprenticeship opportunity that provides hands-on experience in engineering while working towards an Engineering Manufacturing Technician qualification through a validated training provider. The successful candidate will be exposed to a range of engineering processes, working alongside experienced engineers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support project teams, assisting with mechanical aspects of products and systems throughout their development stages.
  2. Conduct testing and compliance, advising and carrying out testing procedures to ensure products meet company standards.
  3. Collaborate with quality and production, helping to ensure all components meet the design intent and are manufactured to specification.
  4. Support off-site engineers, providing troubleshooting, problem-solving, and integration testing assistance for products and systems.
  5. Maintain traceability, ensuring all data generated and design decisions follow best practices for traceability and compliance.
  6. Adhere to Health & Safety regulations, complying with all relevant health and safety standards and procedures during the execution of tasks.
What You'll Need:
  1. Communication Skills: Demonstrate a good level of verbal and written communication skills.
  2. 3D Design Software Competency: A basic understanding of 3D design software.
  3. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver to challenging deadlines in a small team environment.
  4. Practical Problem-Solving Skills: A passion for hands-on problem-solving and designing user interface functionality.
  5. Self-Motivation: Strong drive to learn and improve work practices, with an interest in emerging technologies and materials.
  6. Traceability and Process Awareness: Understanding the importance of maintaining traceability and adhering to best practices in engineering processes.
  7. 2D/3D Drawing Competency: A basic understanding of how to create 2D drawings and modifiable parts/assemblies to facilitate design changes.
  8. Material and Manufacturing Knowledge: Awareness of common materials and manufacturing methods, and their implications on design.
  9. Educational Requirements: A minimum of 32 UCAS points, including at least one A-Level at grade C in a relevant STEM subject (or equivalent AVCE, National Diploma, or certificate).
  10. CAD Software Familiarity: Previous experience or familiarity with CAD software (Inventor preferred).
  11. Apprenticeship Eligibility: Must meet UK Government eligibility criteria for apprenticeship funding.
  12. Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (minimum 5 years of permanent residency required).
  13. Desirable Experience: Any previous exposure to an engineering environment (e.g., work experience, product design modules) is advantageous.
