Position: Treasurer

The Welcoming Association is seeking a Treasurer to help take forward its strategy for a more welcoming, diverse, and inclusive city of Edinburgh. The current Board of Trustees and staff are a highly dedicated, committed, and passionate set of people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and we are excited to open up the opportunity for a new Board Member.

The Treasurer is a key volunteer role within our governance structure. As our Treasurer, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chair, and Finance Manager to advise the Board of Trustees on all aspects of business management and finance matters related to the work of the Welcoming Association.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chair, and Finance Manager.
  2. Advise the Board of Trustees on business management and finance matters.
  3. Report financial performance to Board members.
  4. Prepare budgets and forecasts, management accounting, and statutory financial reporting.
  5. Ensure compliance with charity accounting requirements and relevant legislation.
  6. Implement internal control frameworks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Professionally qualified (CA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or similar designation).
  2. Experience in a finance-based role (accountant, financial controller, financial director, etc.).
  3. Experience of reporting financial performance to Board members.
  4. Experience in preparing budgets and forecasts, management accounting, and statutory financial reporting.
  5. Knowledge of charity accounting requirements and relevant legislation.
  6. Experience with internal control frameworks.

Time Commitment:

  1. 6 x in-person Board meetings per year, usually held in Edinburgh on a Thursday mid-afternoon.
  2. 2 in-person strategic away days (taking place over 2 days with an overnight stay).
  3. Annual visits to housing developments across Scotland.
  4. Option to attend sector and other events throughout the year.
