Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Your Role & Our Team

IRB Barcelona is seeking a motivated Research Assistant/Lab Manager to join the Comparative Genomics group, which seeks to understand the underlying genomic bases of organismal adaptations, particularly in microbial organisms.

As a research assistant the selected candidate will have a transversal role, working in several projects within the group and in collaboration with hospitals or academic groups. The selected candidate will be in charge of implementing and applying experimental techniques in the areas of genomics, microbiology, and molecular biology. As lab manager, the selected candidate will supervise the work of the laboratory technicians in the group, manage the wet lab, and interact closely with the members of the group and researchers at IRB Barcelona.

This position is funded by the project "CPP2021-008552 financed by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR.

Key responsibilities

• Management of lab databases and sample/reagent banks
• Purchasings
• Supervision of technical staff and students
• Implementation of novel experimental approaches
• Analysis, interpretation and presentation of research findings
• Contribution to research reports and publications

You have

• PhD in biological sciences or another related field
• Interpersonal and effective communication skills
• Inclined to team work and support and collaborative roles
• Motivated and proactive attitude
• Fluency in English

You might also have

• Prior experience in yeast and cell-line culturing, molecular biology, and microbiology techniques is a plus
• Experience with leadership and management will be positively value.
