Animation jobs in Germany

We are looking for a Production Coordinator to support the smooth running of our YouTube channels, fern and Simplicissimus , specialising in investigative journalism, video essays and documentaries. fern and Simplicissimus have established themselves as premier destinations for video essays around political and social topics. You will play a key role in coordinating workflows for a portfolio of world-class digital video content, ensuring efficient processes from pre-production to final delivery. This role is ideal for someone with 3-5 years of production experience who is detail-oriented, organised and passionate about digital media and storytelling.

This is a German-native role, and candidates are preferred to be located within Germany to facilitate seamless collaboration with our teams and production partners. The majority of the fern and Simplicissimus team is based in Germany and the Netherlands.

Tasks

• Coordinate schedules, resources, and personnel for the creation of our content
• Optimise and maintain project tracking tools (e.g., Monday.com) to ensure all production stages are accurately recorded and updated.
• Support with meeting preparation, including creating agendas and documenting action items.
• Organise and manage assets within storage systems to ensure accessibility
• Assist producers in organising and coordinating location shoots.
• Facilitate media management, access allocation, and deliverables checks.

Animation Workflow

• Manage render farm queues to ensure timely completion of animation renders.
• Oversee upload processes for assets and final deliverables.
• Troubleshoot basic issues with rendering, storage, and file management.

Finance

• Assist in setting budgets for individual projects in alignment with overall production budgets.
• Track and manage costs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Process invoices, expenses, and receipts promptly and accurately.

Team and Freelancer Support

• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and contracting of freelancers and staff.
• Track time and project contributions for freelancers to ensure efficient resourcing.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in production coordination, ideally in journalism, documentary production, or digital video production.
• Familiarity with 2D and 3D animation workflows, experience setting up and managing shoots and filming days across varied locations.
• Experience using Monday.com or other project management tools.
• Strong organisational skills with a focus on detail and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in scheduling, budget management, and cost tracking.
• Native-level German language skills and fluency in English.
