WSP is excited to announce an opportunity for an Intermediate to Senior Wetland and Vegetation Ecologist to join our dynamic Transportation and Municipal team in various locations across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

What you can expect to do here:
- You will have experience and working knowledge with the Alberta Wetland Policy and applicable directives, including preparation of Wetland Assessments, and wetland delineation and classification, and ABWRET.
- You will have knowledge of the Alberta Code of Practice for Watercourse crossings, Code of Practice for Pipelines and Telecommunication Lines Crossing a Water Body, and Code of Practice for Outfall Structures on Water Bodies.
- You will have an understanding of environmental legislation applicable to transportation and municipal work, including the regulatory processes at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.
- You will have experience in coordinating and/or conducting field programs with excellent field skills in general ecological data collection, including vegetation, soil and wetlands, with opportunity to participate in fisheries and wildlife surveys.
- You will have the ability to mentor and train junior biologists and ecologists.
- You will have the capability and experience to research and develop high-quality proposals and reports.
- You will develop and supervise delivery of contracts, and maintain detailed project files.
- You will have opportunities to assist with other impact assessment, wetland or fisheries projects, and may require occasional travel to conduct lead field programs.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Minimum: B.Sc. in Biology, or Tech Diploma with experience.
- Eligibility for registration (or active registration) with a professional association (e.g., P.Biol., P.Ag., R.T.Biol.) in Alberta is an asset.
- Practical understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks, including relevant guidelines, legislation, and regulations pertaining to environmental assessments and wetland management.
- Valid driver’s license (minimum Class 5 with GDL removed).
- Detail-oriented with organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated proficiency building and maintaining positive professional partnerships.
- Sound computer knowledge and proficiency with various Microsoft programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). GIS (ArcGIS platforms) would be an asset.
- Vegetation, fish, and wildlife identification skills.
- Experience coordinating or managing projects, budgets, and contracts.
- Experience with various upland and riparian habitat restoration.
