Leadership
Provide leadership for nursing team within ward/unit and report all issues to the senior charge nurse/unit manager.
Collaborate with personnel from non-nursing departments/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care; facilitate solutions as needed.
Participate in committees and task forces that are interdisciplinary or interdepartmental; may be required to chair, co-chair or lead such groups.
Management of Clinical Practice
Facilitate effective patient flow utilizing bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately.
Monitor and review staff skill mix and, in accordance with patient acuity, use available information to align staffing and workload.
Build relationships with staff, peers and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning, aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Promote continuity of care that is patient-centered, outcome-oriented and focused towards discharge planning.
Ensure that quality standards of nursing documentation are maintained according to organizational policy.
Perform hospital rounds to assess, identify problems, determine solutions and guide teams in clinical and operational management of services.
Communication
Liaise effectively with other healthcare providers both internal and external to the organization.
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
Facilitate effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary healthcare team as required.
Communicate with all unit(s)/departments as appropriate, to maximize efficiency and expedite the admission, transfer and discharge process.
Use information technology to access, transmit and produce information as necessary.
Performance Improvement/Risk Management
Support a culture of performance improvement.
Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care provided.
Actively participate in accreditation activities.
Audit compliance with organizational documentation standards.
Support and participate in the implementation of evidence-based practice to promote clinical knowledge and a research-based clinical practice environment.
Monitor and support the organizational Key Performance Indicators and Clinical Indicators and reinforce corrective action to improve clinical service.
Coordinate, monitor, and report incidents occurring within the organization after business hours facilitating corrective or preventative action as required.
Minimize exposure to incidents of infection/cross infection of patients, staff, visitors and the general public. Ensure staff adheres to the infection control policies and procedures of the organization.
Monitor compliance with International and HAAD Patient Safety Goals.
Education
Support the staff to provide a suitable environment for patient and family learning.
Engage in health promotion activities in the organization and community.
Professional Responsibilities
Identify and utilize various mechanisms to assist in the development of managerial and leadership skills.
Utilize internal educational resources and external agencies to assist with the development of managerial competencies.
Develop and achieve annual performance criteria/goals in conjunction with the Line Manager.
Attend and participate in the orientation and other hospital-based programs as agreed with the Line Manager.
Maintain and update own professional development through relevant educational activities.
Maintain and update a professional portfolio.
Initiate action and report to the appropriate manager when staff behavior and/or performance do not meet professional standards.
Ensure effective and efficient utilization of human resources, consumables and equipment.
SEHA Compliance guidelines
Comply with policies, procedures and practices of the SEHA facilities and other regulatory requirements.
Complete and maintain regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
Maintaining Confidentiality
Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with facility policy.
Promoting Customer Service standards
Assume the role of a brand ambassador for the facility and promote a customer-focused philosophy in dealing with any stakeholders.
Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and also with other departments/sections within the facility.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic responsibilities of the role.

Adhere to requirements of the Occupational Health and safety guidelines and infection control guidelines.
