Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Laboratory Director, lab staff, sales team, and the principals we represent to meet the needs of our customers. The candidate will identify and solve issues to improve the performance of existing customer products and innovate to help develop new products.
  • Develop, prepare, test, and report on the performance of formulations.
  • Plan projects in collaboration with Lab Manager, senior lab staff, commercial colleagues, customers, and principals.
  • Evaluate formulations using standard and in-house protocols and support the development of test methods for formulation performance testing.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook.
  • Interpret lab results. Form and report sound conclusions and recommendations in a clear manner.
  • Work with our Digital Marketing and Global labs to share data and information with our customers and colleagues.
  • Support and actively promote safe working conditions.
  • Implement and develop safe laboratory procedures and write clear standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Always maintain Safety Procedures in the laboratory, with continuous improvement as a goal.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, raw materials, and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Maintain lab equipment and calibrate where necessary.
  • Provide direct customer and sales support as appropriate with Lab Director and lab staff. Provide support and participate in staff training events as required; this may include occasional travel.

Experience, Skills & Education Requirements

  • University bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or relevant laboratory experience. Higher level education is an asset.
  • Prior experience with typical personal care formulations is required. Strong background in Skin Care and/or Hair Care formulation. 3+ years of formulating experience desired.
  • Fluent English.
  • Interest in and ability to continuously learn and implement new skills.
  • Analytical approach and attention to detail.
  • Good listening skills and ability to write and speak clearly.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to change and quickly learn new systems and product technologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure (with safe procedures always the first responsibility).
