Sustainable Design Professional II

Contributes and assists in developing sustainable project and design solutions to advance respective projects while working independently with guidance. Eager to learn and innovate in the integrative process, technical implementation, and sustainable outcomes on projects with the team. Anticipates job expectations and contributes to sustainable project and design solutions.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs respective responsibilities including creatively engaging project teams as the visible go-to for sustainability in the region, delivering strategic enterprise improvements across the region, assisting with staff promotion advocacy and annual review, and identifying regional business opportunities for service expansion.
2. Assists with creating annual ESG objectives, key results, and actions.
3. Collaborates in the project integrative process and workshops including team member coordination, Nature of Place research and development, identification of sustainable/high-performance project goals, and strategies.
4. Successfully delivers project certifications for third-party rating systems applying best practice, integrated design, and performance analysis as needed.
5. Coordinates technical and analytic needs with the Director of Building Engineering Physics and regional staff.
6. Completes project workload and prepares proposals for our internal and stand-alone external project services.
7. Delivers project outcomes that align with firm objectives in collaboration with the team.
8. May support the Director of Sustainability in recruitment of DesignGreen staff.
9. Works with geographic offices to support ESG objectives and align with design, research, and process enterprise objectives.
10. Provides project-focused commentary and usability feedback on data systems.
11. Carries out or assists with specialized research activities.
12. May prepare client presentations and assist with presenting design concepts.
13. Maintains open communication with clients and may provide guidance through projects.
14. Maintains awareness of risk management for potential project issues and involves PIC/PM if needed.
15. Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues, and coordination with other disciplines.
16. May attend on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings and documents as needed.

Qualifications:

1. Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Sustainable Design, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
2. Professional licensure in architecture or related field preferred.
3. Typically 3+ years of experience.
4. Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
5. Experience in wholistic integrative design delivery including charette facilitation and systems thinking.
6. Familiarity with design and energy modeling applications such as Rhino, Grasshopper, Radiance, DIVA, REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketchup, IES VE, Sefaira, Insight360, Energy Plus, EnergyPro preferred.
7. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
8. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
9. Experience in LEED, WELL, Living Building, etc. submission and regulatory compliance energy modeling.
10. Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
11. Knowledge in interpreting and applying high-performance building standards such as ANSI, ASHRAE, IESNA, and ASTM as well as building energy codes such as IECC and T24.
12. Strong knowledge of architectural building systems and building science.
13. Knowledge of QA/QC and specification process.
14. Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
15. Strong presentation skills.
16. Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships.
17. Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
18. Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions.
19. Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
20. Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
21. Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality.
22. Travel will be required.
