We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineering Manager to join our team and help us build out and manage our brand new Mexico Engineering Office, centered in Guadalajara. In this role, you will partner with Senior Engineering leadership to structure and execute a strategy to properly integrate this new engineering workforce into our existing teams, projects, and initiatives.
You’ll report to the Senior Director of Engineering and work from our Midtown Guadalajara office.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and manage engineering teams, including recruitment, coaching, and mentoring.
- Use Agile and DevOps methodologies to foster a high-velocity engineering team.
- Utilize software lifecycle management, project management, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit top engineering talent, including developing strategies for sourcing, interviewing, and hiring.
- Build and scale a team in a competitive tech market.
- Establish a positive, inclusive, and performance-oriented engineering culture.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen and the ability to align engineering priorities with business goals.
- Lead complex, cross-functional engineering projects from inception to delivery.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and KPIs for engineering projects and ensure they are aligned with the company's overall strategy.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership/management position handling an org of 20+ people.
- Prior experience leading or managing teams across different geographies is highly desirable.
- A strong passion for building from the ground up and a startup mindset.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Deep understanding of AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, CloudFormation, VPC, IAM, etc.
- Proven experience in designing and deploying scalable cloud solutions on AWS.
- Knowledge of best practices in cloud security, cost optimization, and performance management.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes on AWS EKS).
- Strong software engineering background, with expertise in backend systems architecture.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js).
- Experience with microservices architecture, APIs, and RESTful web services.
- Ability to establish software development best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing.
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish, as this will be crucial for effective communication between teams in Mexico and international offices.
