Senior Cloud Engineer - OASE

Job Description

Oracle Analytics Service Excellence (OASE) partners with the development teams within Oracle Analytics to improve uptime of the services offered (Oracle Analytics Services).

The Oracle Analytics Service Excellence (OASE) team within Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) is responsible for developing tools, technologies, processes, and driving change/improvement through data-driven decision making that drives collaborative solutions across multiple job disciplines. OASE is focused on building cloud-based technologies managing, improving, maintaining, and evolving the public cloud services offerings; as well as automating processes, developing code and services, operating, and reporting on internal applications that support the growth of the business, education of partners, and ensuring compliance across the breadth of Oracle Analytics.

The ideal candidate is looking to work in an agile environment on problems that are focused on improving uptime by reducing time to mitigation when issues are surfaced/reported by automated means or through customer incidents; contributing to code for automation of monitoring, patching, and remediation of service anomalies; and, working on projects that enable the business of Oracle Analytics to grow profits or shrink costs as they are identified and funded as priorities for our group to drive or participate in the proposed solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Perform DevOps activities to support customers, engineers, and processes through our release cycles as well as production.
2. Participate in a follow-the-sun model for 24x7 support of Oracle Analytics services.
3. Respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues and drive to completion, driving and participate in root cause analysis.
4. Become expert in Analytic services, to prevent, resolve customer issues effectively and prevent regressions and repeats.
5. Document various processes & run-books; update existing processes.
6. Execute, with excellence, delivery of interim patches and hot-fixes as required.
7. Work with various teams to take ownership of and resolve service failure/outages.
8. Monitor metrics and develop ways to improve the CI and CD tools utilized by the team.
9. Follow all best practices and procedures as established by the company.
10. Mentor and train other engineers and seek to continually improve processes.
11. Other duties as assigned.

The candidate requires these attributes:

1. Capable of working in EU restricted regions.
2. A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent.
3. Providing cloud networking, infrastructure, and service support, configuration, operations, tools, and processes.
4. Understand networking, and TCP/IP fundamentals and services such as DNS, HTTP, etc.
5. Linux/Unix system administration including system level knowledge of Linux on OCI Gen 2, creating and executing scripts.
6. Experience developing & operating cloud services or large distributed applications in production.
7. Methodical approaches to troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems, reverse engineering existing applications.
8. Producing documentation in support of developed work (KBs, run books, help guides).
9. Utilizing agile methodologies.
10. Communicating effectively in a team environment.
11. Working with remote, global teams as well as individuals.
12. Working independently and in a self-directed manner.
13. Able to work extended week day and week-end shifts as required for on-call, after hours upgrades, and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following attributes:

1. Knowledge of Oracle Analytics server, BI publisher, Oracle Analytics Cloud; Oracle database, Oracle Autonomous DB, MySQL (experience with MS SQL and/or NoSQL is a plus).
2. 5+ years of experience of running large scale customer facing Web Applications.
3. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or AWS, Azure, GCP compute, storage, and network operational experience.
4. Programming and scripting languages (Python, Ansible, bash, Java Script - additional experience with Java development is a plus).
5. Using CI/CD scripting tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
6. Experience in Cloud Native application development using Containers and orchestration (Kubernetes) independently scalable micro-services.
7. Experience in REST API design and development.
8. Issue tracking and collaboration (Jira and Confluence).
