Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Ensure process control and stability by improving existing manufacturing processes and capabilities. Participate in new processes for the manufacture of new products and lead manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, and process control improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Plan, organize and execute work-streams on projects to deliver process improvement.
2. Evaluate process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, and institute continuous improvements to existing manufacturing operations through process automation/semi-automation.
3. Project work scope typically includes equipment selection (design, development), manufacturing installation, startup, and acceptance (Pilot, Pre-Pro Runs & EEM).
4. Role includes individual contributor and project work-stream leadership responsibilities.
5. Improvements interface with suppliers to deliver fully, on budget, and fulfilling the technical scope when appropriate.
6. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges.
7. Utilize basic statistical tools, engineering data, and DMAIC/DESGN/Lean methodologies to develop process understanding to support robust manufacturing processes.
8. Support execution of roadmap and project portfolio.
9. Develop and update manufacturing process documentation (MPIs, VAs).
10. Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution.
11. Apply process engineering knowledge, skills, and expertise from concept through delivery of process at production areas.
12. Participate in Stage Gate (RA, LA, GA) defined.
13. Work on problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
14. Introduce safe and ergonomic devices and processes to enable a safe work environment.
15. Support the implementation of a robust Product Quality Architecture for new and existing products.

Experiences/Education - Required

Education

1. Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electronic, Industrial Engineering or related.

Work Experience

1. 2-4 years experience in manufacturing engineering.
2. Previous experience with MES / ERP Systems.

Skills

1. English skills 70%.
2. Self-starter who is able to meet expectations for their objectives and timelines with appropriate supervision.
3. Project Management knowledge.
4. Understanding of problem-solving processes.
5. Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
