Java Support Engineer

Salary Range:

• 3-6 years: Up to $51,000
• 6-15 years: Up to $55,000

Role Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Support Engineer to join our production management organization. This role will focus on ensuring the stability, reliability, and efficiency of applications supporting critical business functions. The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting complex issues, optimizing performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve application stability.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and resolve application issues in collaboration with team members.
• Identify defects, discrepancies, and trends through code debugging and log analysis.
• Manage incidents and communicate effectively with users, application owners, and senior stakeholders.
• Improve application performance by identifying recurring issues and advising on permanent fixes.
• Leverage automation tools to detect and resolve failures using machine learning techniques.
• Identify alerts and processes that can be automated and work with engineering teams to implement solutions.
• Challenge existing application setups and suggest improvements to enhance stability.
• Actively participate in change management processes to mitigate risks in production environments.
• Develop and refine run books to minimize operational errors and enhance efficiency.
• Generate reports to track and manage application health and service performance.
• Willingness to learn and support proprietary technologies as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of software development experience.

Required Skills:

• Strong understanding of Data Structures and their practical applications.
• Problem-solving skills in development and production environments, including root cause analysis.
• Ability to articulate technical and functional aspects of application issues to stakeholders.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Java.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Shell Script, Perl, JavaScript, or Python.
• Knowledge of relational database environments, including Sybase ASE/IQ, Oracle, or DB2.
• Experience working with SQL and UNIX/Linux environments.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience in the Financial Services Industry.
• Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, HDFS, or XRS using public cloud.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science.
