What's the role?
The GIS Data Engineer supports the design, execution, and improvements of complex integration processes, mentoring junior team members and possibly having a limited number of direct reports, always with a passion for data.
Main Responsibilities
- Independently lead and execute complex data engineering projects, design new end-to-end processes for the conversion and use of external digital sources in the creation and maintenance of the HERE databases and related products.
- Leverage data engineering technologies like AWS Services, FME, ArcGIS, Python, SQL, QGIS, and others to transform and integrate complex data or create products.
- Assess and manage risks of complex bulk integration efforts, recognizing that high data amounts lead to high risks.
- Provide extensive GIS and spatial data consultancy, especially focused on bulk source integration efforts and process improvements.
- Identify improvement and innovation opportunities and drive them into the organization, managing possible resistance.
- Lead and participate in departmental and cross-functional projects to increase efficiency, quality, and reduce costs.
- Mature engineering and consultancy mindset focused on value and cost efficiency, delivering necessary end results.
- Maintain a good understanding of relevant technologies and initiatives, including HERE Database content and product specifications.
- Design and apply technology strategically and tactically to improve GIS Data Engineering processes, tools, and scope.
- Develop broad experience of projects and processes; re-engineer new process workflows if needed.
- Act with empathy and integrity among inter-departmental peers to ensure Data Integration insight and advice reaches the target.
- Detect problems with data conversion, bulk updates, or the Map databases and act on them.
- Mentor and support junior GIS Data Engineers.
Who are you?
- Post Graduate or Graduate degree preferred in computer science, geodesy, geography, or a related field.
- 3+ years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and related work experience; certification desired.
- Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS & FME or similar spatial tools.
- Strong familiarity with programming and scripting (SQL, Python) and ability to learn other tools and programming languages.
- Demonstrated experience with AWS Services.
- Mastery of GIS Data engineering tools and processes.
- Ability to customize solutions outside of off-the-shelf tools and solve complex data problems.
- Understanding and ability to write into formats such as XML, PostgresDB, GeoJSON, LRP, FGDB.
- Experience with the HERE databases and products.
- Fluent communication in English.
