General Technician

Salary: £23,557 per annum

Location: CEMAST, Lee-on-the-Solent

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Duties

• To prepare materials and set up equipment for use in workshops.
• To assist in the ordering and stock control of consumable items and equipment.
• To give practical assistance to faculty staff and assist students in a supporting role when classes are in operation.
• To assist with the area’s Health and Safety requirements which includes taking an active part in maintaining any applicable system. (e.g. Risk Assessments, maintaining Risk Assessment Logs and updating COSHH forms)
• To assist in departmental administrative tasks which include cataloguing, filing, photocopying and labelling of resource materials.
• To maintain good housekeeping standards in the working areas, including tidying the work area and ensuring all equipment is satisfactorily maintained.
• To assist with the unloading of materials and equipment delivered to the College.
• To make occasional purchases and collect materials which are required for lessons.
• To support College Open events as required.

Skills/Experience

• Experience in prioritising and organising workload, supporting a team.
• Understanding of safety requirements in a workshop and classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum GCSE Grade 4/C in English & Maths.
• Relevant qualification in the area of expertise (or commitment to achieving this in the required timeframe).
