E-commerce Compliance Engineer

We are seeking a skilled E-commerce Compliance Engineer to ensure that our online retail operations adhere to all applicable regulations, standards, and best practices. This role will focus on preventing potential legal risks related to accessibility (ADA/WCAG), data protection (GDPR, CCPA), product information accuracy, and other compliance matters that could lead to lawsuits or regulatory penalties. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background combined with a deep understanding of e-commerce regulations, particularly in the US and international markets.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with global regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, ADA (WCAG), FTC guidelines, FDA regulations (for dietary supplements), and other e-commerce laws.
• Conduct audits on product listings, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with industry standards.
• Collaborate with development teams to implement accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1+) in UI/UX design.
• Review and enhance privacy policies, terms of service, and data processing agreements.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to consumer protection laws, including refund and return policies.
• Work with security teams to reinforce data security measures, protecting customer data from breaches.
• Develop automated compliance monitoring systems and work with developers to integrate them.
• Stay up to date with new regulations and update internal policies accordingly.
• Provide training and guidance to teams on compliance best practices.
• Act as the point of contact for regulatory agencies and legal teams regarding e-commerce compliance matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Law, Cybersecurity, Business, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in e-commerce compliance, cybersecurity, or legal compliance roles.
• Strong knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, ADA/WCAG, FTC, FDA (for supplements), and international e-commerce laws.
• Familiarity with web accessibility audits, SEO compliance, and secure payment processing standards (PCI DSS).
• Experience working with developers and legal teams to implement compliance-focused solutions.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate compliance concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with compliance monitoring tools and methodologies is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the health & wellness industry, particularly with dietary supplements.
• Certifications in CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, or other compliance-related credentials.
• Familiarity with AI-driven compliance tools for e-commerce.
• Knowledge of cloud security and data protection standards.
