WHAT WE DO

The global training/L&D team at Bain builds capabilities through a range of learning options. This includes live virtual and in-person programs, apprenticeship, coaching, mentoring, social, and self-directed digital learning. We are expanding the range and reach of digital/online learning at Bain through “next generation” content and engaging learner experiences.

As a senior leader within the global training/L&D team, the Director, Digital Learning Design is responsible for providing strategic leadership and setting the direction for digital learning design at Bain. This role entails driving the overall strategy, vision, and execution of digital learning designs and solutions across the organization. It also includes a broader remit, in ensuring that the global training/L&D team develops fully integrated learning experiences for all end customers, across all learning channels (digital, in-person, virtual, other). The Director is a key decision-maker and collaborator, working closely with senior stakeholders to optimize digital learning technologies and ensure high-quality experiences.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Lead the strategic direction for the digital learning design team

  1. Develop and articulate the vision, goals, and objectives for digital learning design and development at Bain, aligning with the organization's strategy (learning, talent, overall).
  2. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify and prioritize areas for digital learning expansion, aligning with business needs and future trends to forecast demand.
  3. Drive change management initiatives to ensure the successful adoption of efficient and effective digital learning production methods, and the engagement of digital learning solutions across Bain.
  4. Lead the formulation and implementation of comprehensive digital learning design strategies that leverage emerging/AI technologies and best practices.
  5. Implement future-focused approaches to agile learning design processes and methods.
  6. Provide thought leadership and guidance on learning experience design, staying updated on industry advancements, and incorporating innovative approaches into the strategy.
  7. Foster a culture of innovation and commitment to industry-leading designs that support Bain populations and their work needs.
  8. Be recognized as the go-to expert on digital learning design within the organization, and cultivate a community of excellence.
  9. Lead Digital Learning team initiatives and act as a recognized leader within the global training/L&D and talent teams.

Lead and manage the digital learning design teamlet, working closely with other L&D/talent sub-teams

  1. Lead end-to-end project management process for complex learning initiatives.
  2. Prioritize projects across different firm priority initiatives, based on business need and digital learning/contractor resource availability.
  3. Oversee day-to-day operations of the department, effectively managing resources (including contractors and vendors), budgets, and timelines to deliver results.
  4. Foster collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, working closely with other teams within and outside the digital learning, global training/L&D and talent teams.
  5. Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching to a team of digital learning designers, fostering a consistent, high-performance culture and promoting professional growth.
  6. Set clear objectives and performance expectations, regularly communicating strengths and development areas and ensuring alignment with team/organizational goals.
  7. Lead the team to generate high-quality and innovative designs and solutions that meet all brand, inclusivity and accessibility expectations.
  8. Role model inspirational leadership and the Bain operating principles.
  9. Establish and implement quality assurance processes and a culture of continuous improvement.
  10. Represent digital learning design teamlet with internal and external stakeholders, promoting team’s value and impact on employee development and organizational success.
  11. Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, regularly communicating progress, addressing concerns, and seeking strategic input.

Oversee the measurement and analytics of the impact of digital learning solutions

  1. Develop, promote, and integrate a strategic approach to impact measurement that includes learner feedback.
  2. Collaborate with global training digital learning engagement and strategy/design teams, to develop and track key metrics that evaluate the impact and success of self-directed digital learning content.
  3. Optimize digital learning designs for our learning technology environment, ensuring a seamless and powerful user experience.
  4. Cultivate a network of global stakeholders to gather feedback, understand user needs, and identify opportunities for enhancing digital learning design and development.

ABOUT YOU

  1. BA/BS or equivalent, with strong credentials, ideally in education, learning, or design.
  2. Relevant certifications in digital learning content development, design thinking, learning experience design.
  3. 10+ years of experience designing and developing digital learning using principles and methods for instructional design, individual/group learning, and the measurement of outcomes.
  4. 10+ years of experience with content development including experience using multi-media development software (authoring software, video creation tools, graphic design tools, etc.).
  5. 5+ years of experience leading/project managing end-to-end learning design initiatives (both digital learning only and digital learning plus other channels).
  6. 5+ years of experience leading and coaching learning design teams.
  7. 5+ years of experience partnering with vendors to manage the production process of digital assets/ experiences.
  8. 5+ years of experience with design thinking, user experience, and human-centered design.
  9. 5+ years of experience interfacing with learning management systems/learning experience platforms (LMSs/LXPs).
  10. Experience with Trello or similar project management tools.
  11. Experience with Agile, Kanban, and/or Scrum.
  12. Knowledge of basic coding and website design a plus.
  13. Proven experience successfully applying cutting-edge learning technology.
  14. Proven track record of presenting and publishing, with recognized thought leadership.
  15. Experience as a consultant is highly valued.
  16. Experience using LXP/LRS databases to derive insights.
  17. Experience working for a global professional services firm/enterprise and coordinating complex schedules.
  18. Visionary mindset and behavioral agility.

U.S. Compensation Information

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:

In Illinois state, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $147,500 - $176,500 placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.

For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.

  • Annual discretionary performance bonus.
  • This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation.
  • 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date.
