Job description
Overview

Our purpose is to give everyone real confidence to put their money to work. With a heritage dating back more than 175 years, we have a long history of innovation in savings and investments, combining asset management and insurance expertise to offer a wide range of solutions.

Our two distinct operating segments, Asset Management and Life, work together to provide access to balanced, long-term investment and savings solutions.

Through telling it like it is, owning it now, and moving it forward together with care and integrity; we are creating an exceptional place to work for exceptional talent.

We will consider flexible working arrangements for any of our roles and also offer work place accommodations to ensure you have what you need to effectively deliver in your role.

The Role

The Quantitative Analyst will support the development of analytical tools, strategic asset allocation models, and investment frameworks tailored to insurance clients across multiple jurisdictions (e.g. Solvency II, ICS).

The role combines technical modelling with commercial application.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong quantitative skills who is interested in the intersection of insurance balance sheet management, investment strategy, and asset–liability optimisation.

The Team

The Insurance Solutions Team was established to leverage M&G’s dual heritage as both a major insurer and global asset manager. The team partners with insurers worldwide to design capital‑efficient, liability‑aware investment solutions that align with their regulatory, accounting, and balance‑sheet objectives.

We are seeking a Quantitative Analyst to deepen our analytical and modelling capabilities and help scale our global insurance platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quantitative Modelling & Analytical Development
    • Build and enhance tools to extract, clean, and analyse data from insurance, market, and economic databases (via Python and API integrations).
    • Develop and maintain strategic asset allocation (SAA) models for insurers focused on return-on-capital optimisation, solvency impact, liquidity considerations, and accounting outcomes.
    • Implement scenario‑based models to assess capital efficiency, risk sensitivities, and asset-liability interactions across different regulatory frameworks.
  • Product Development & Solution Design
    • Assist in the creation of tailored investment solutions, including capital‑efficient credit, private asset strategies, matching adjustment portfolios, and multi‑asset mandates.
    • Evaluate impact on Solvency II SCR, economic capital, and accounting (IFRS 9/17) to support client decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with the Insurance Sales team to respond to client requests, RFPs, and due diligence exercises.
    • Partner with the in‑house Investment Analytics and Technology teams to industrialise prototype models into scalable internal tools.
    • Become the team's specialist user of Ortec analytic software, supporting portfolio analysis and risk modelling.
  • Research & Market Insight
    • Conduct research on regulatory developments, insurance investment trends, alternative asset classes, and capital‑efficient portfolio construction.
    • Support thought leadership initiatives and client publications where appropriate.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python (required); experience with pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Plotly, and API integration preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial or economic modelling; insurance or ALM modelling experience a plus.
  • Understanding of investment risk metrics, asset class characteristics, and portfolio construction concepts.
  • Interest in insurance investing, balance sheet management, and regulatory capital frameworks
  • Experience in asset management, insurance, consulting, or risk analytics is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Curious mindset with appetite to learn and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to prioritise and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working on diverse projects and adapting to evolving team priorities.

Candidates advancing to the later stages of the interview process should be prepared to complete a live Python coding exercise, either in person or through a shared-screen session.
