Job description

Main Purpose of the role:

The role involves assisting the Production Manager in enforcing health and safety protocols, managing and training production/manufacturing staff, and operating machinery. Key responsibilities include monitoring production quality and volume, addressing technical issues, and proposing process improvements. Maintaining rigorous housekeeping standards and managing raw material inventory are also crucial. The goal is to ensure efficient, safe production operations and uphold product quality standards. Compliance with safety regulations and company policies is paramount.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Assist the Production Manager in ensuring that activities are carried out and monitored in accordance with the company's health and safety requirements and in compliance with relevant health and safety and environmental legislation.
  2. Manage a team of Production operatives to ensure that they carry out their work, operating plant and machinery equipment effectively and safely.
  3. Operate plant and machinery equipment, and undertake cleaning activities, as required.
  4. Monitor the volume and quality of output to ensure that production metrics are met and to the standards required.
  5. Propose enhancements to machinery or processes for better efficiency and quality.
  6. Address technical issues in the production process promptly.
  7. Uphold and enforce rigorous housekeeping standards consistently.
  8. Monitor and adjust production equipment settings to maintain required output quality and volume.
  9. Monitor staffing levels on production equipment and make changes as necessary in the event of employee absence.
  10. Train operators in the production process to ensure that they work efficiently and safely.
  11. Keep and maintain accurate records of production as required.
  12. Manage raw material inventory to ensure that there are sufficient stocks to meet production requirements.
  13. Foster and maintain a safe and healthy work atmosphere with colleagues, practicing safe and responsible behaviours at all times.
  14. Ensure that colleagues utilise all machinery in compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
  15. Play an active part in initiatives to improve the business, including making suggestions, contributing to improvement projects, and supporting new initiatives suggested by your colleagues.
  16. Adhere to the company's policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the highest quality standards for all our products and services.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  1. Possesses a solid secondary education, including Maths and English.
  2. Time served or ONC or HNC in production or engineering is desirable.
  3. Recognised Health and Safety qualification, e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH or NVQ.
  4. Entry-level management certification, e.g Level 3 ILM, CMI Team Leader/Supervisor.
  5. Possession of a recognised Lean/Six Sigma qualification (minimum Green Belt).
  6. Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  7. Experienced in production and manufacturing processes and skilled in handling industrial plant machinery and equipment.
  8. Capable of reading and understanding Engineering drawings is desirable.
  9. Experienced in supervisor or management roles and adept at working collaboratively in a team, adaptable to rotating shift patterns.
