Job description

Our tier 1 contractor client in the Water sector is seeking a Senior Project Manager based out of Derby offices on a hybrid working basis to lead on a Wastewater programme of works on Severn Trent Water.


The role is a leadership role, and will work closely with the Head of Operations, Contracts Manager and Senior Project Manager for Water - to lead the Waste Portfolio of work within the Self Delivery team. The role will involve the management of other Project Managers and Project Engineers, as well as the mentorship of some of graduates and apprentices.


You will report directly to the Head of Operations and you will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy by planning and evaluating project activities, within the time required and within the tender estimate without risk to the health and safety of all concerned while ensuring good customer satisfaction.


Responsibilities

  1. Promote exceptional safety and delivery quality standards to direct and subcontracted work force.
  2. Ensuring that the BMS is implemented at all stages throughout the project delivery process, i.e from tender handover to final completion.
  3. Maintain good client relationships at all levels.
  4. Maintain the company's reputation on a project by ensuring good relationships are maintained with joint venture partners and suppliers.
  5. Ensuring that sufficient trained personnel are available for the project and that they are aware of their individual responsibilities.
  6. Planning projects, including reviewing and approving the Project Execution Plan (PEP), and then monitoring and controlling the delivery of projects.
  7. Ensuring that appropriately detailed construction plans and method statements are prepared, in place and approved prior to commencement of activities.
  8. Ensuring at contract completion that all records referred to in the PEP are complete and available.
  9. Ensuring that all site non-conformities are reported and approximate costs identified.
  10. Ensure all commercial aspects of the project are managed in a timely and proactive way giving accurate forecast and estimates.
  11. Understanding and implementing the Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and Targets.
  12. Being aware of the need to satisfy customer requirements with the aim of enhancing the customers' perception and satisfaction.
  13. Maintain an appropriate practical knowledge and appreciation of all technical disciplines associated with delivering water and waste water design and build projects.
  14. Have detailed working knowledge and experience of project management practices from scheme conception through to end user acceptance.
  15. Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.
  16. Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
  17. In all internal and external contact, present a professional and positive image of the department and internal as well as maintaining mutually constructive, positive and beneficial relationships.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  1. Project Management experience in managing multi-disciplinary design and construction projects, ideally within the water industry.
  2. Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction, commercial, or engineering related discipline.
  3. Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
  4. Excellent oral and written communicator with the ability to work in close partnership with clients, stakeholders, and end users.
  5. Must be delivery driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives.
  6. Extensive experience in project delivery.
  7. Strategic, operational, technical and management skills.
  8. Knowledge of Construction Contracts, ideally NEC and/or IChemE, with ability to negotiate and administer.
  9. Ability to present at company Governance Reviews in a leading capacity.
  10. Risk & Opportunity Management experience.
  11. Maintain a positive and solution oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
  12. Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
  13. Experience in water and waste water treatment plants.
  14. Chartered with an engineering, commercial, or construction institution.
  15. NEC Project Manager Accreditation.
  16. Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
