Job description

SENIOR REPORTER

HR magazine

Celebrating 40 years of industry leadership, Mark Allen invites you to join a culture driven by passion, creativity, fairness, and a commitment to nurturing talent.

With 550 talented individuals across seven offices, we are excited to recruit a Senior Reporter to join the HR magazine team.

As a Senior Reporter at HR magazine, you will have the opportunity to shape our news agenda, develop original stories, and contribute to a brand with a strong industry reputation. You will be part of a collaborative, creative team where your ideas are valued, and you will have the autonomy to take ownership of key content areas and support the editor. This is a hybrid role, with three in-office days in Herne Hill; our office is located next to Brockwell Park. The starting salary is £34,000 (DOE) plus benefits.

What We Offer:

  • A platform to develop your journalism career, with support to refine your reporting, editing, and commissioning skills.
  • The chance to build a strong industry profile by developing exclusive news, analysis, and feature articles.
  • Opportunities to mentor and support junior team members, strengthening your leadership experience.
  • The ability to influence our content strategy, working closely with the editor to shape editorial direction.
  • Exposure to an incredible industry where you will engage with industry experts, develop an extensive contact base, and represent HR magazine at events, webinars, and podcast recordings.
  • A collaborative and innovative working environment where creativity and initiative are encouraged.
  • A culture of growth, with continuous support for your professional development.
  • Opportunities to connect with peers through our Networking Groups, expanding your skills and professional circle.

We’re looking for a driven journalist who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and is ready to advance their editorial career, producing sharp, well-researched news, analysis, and feature articles.

You Will Be:

Passionate about high-quality journalism, and passionate about finding the most exclusive and relevant stories and comment pieces for our audience. As a key contributor to the brand’s news strategy, you will have a talent for writing clear, accurate, and well-researched news, analysis, and feature articles. Organisation, time management, and attention to detail are also key skills for this role, which involves proofreading, commissioning, and managing op-eds.

Creative in developing and pitching compelling story ideas, as well as finding off-diary news.

Nurturing in your approach to teamwork, mentoring junior colleagues, and helping to shape the brand’s content direction.

Fair and communicative, consistently meeting deadlines while being collaborative: supporting the development of the reporter and working closely with the editor.

Stand Out in Your Application!

We want to see your personality, values, and transferable skills shine. To help you stand out, you can:

  • Upload a video introduction about yourself.
  • Submit a cover letter that highlights your enthusiasm and fit for this role.
  • Request a recommendation from someone who can vouch for your potential.

Show us why you’re excited to join us as we celebrate our 40th anniversary!

Key Details:
