About this role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Data Scientist to join our Customer Data Science (CDS) team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build and shape the machine learning solutions that delight millions of customers using our apps worldwide.

To help you do this, you'll have a state-of-the-art ML platform on Google Cloud, some really big data to play with, highly skilled colleagues and an inclusive workplace that welcomes diversity.

These are some of the key ingredients to the role:

1. Lead and collaborate on high-profile data science projects in sponsored search, multi-objective ranking and recommendation systems.
2. Take a hands-on role in building and maintaining the training, evaluation and experimentation pipelines to support your models.
3. Identify improvement opportunities across the data science landscape and take action as needed to prevent and fix critical problems.
4. Consult with stakeholders on data and technical issues, providing guidance on technical feasibility and deep expertise on the appropriate data science approach.
5. Coach junior team members to help them develop their data science skills.
6. Keep up to date with advances in the field and drive innovation in our product.
7. Develop guidelines and best practices and collaborate on their adoption throughout the data science community.
8. Be a committed participant in the community for all data scientists, ML and data engineers.

What will you bring to the table?

1. Experience in data science or a similar quantitative field with several examples of your work being deployed to production environments and iterated over.
2. A solid grasp of data mining, feature engineering and modelling techniques in the ranking and recommender systems domain.
3. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain data-driven insights and results to stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy.
4. A rigorous approach to evaluating the impact of new algorithms through offline evaluation and online experimentation.
5. A knack of bringing clarity to ambiguous problems and resourcefulness in dealing with incomplete and messy data.
6. Excellent SQL skills and experience navigating large and complex data lakes and warehouses (particularly using BigQuery in the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem).
7. Strong Python skills and a proven record of applying these techniques to solve real-world problems in a scalable way in a production environment. An excellent command of the core libraries for data science (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn).
